ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association recently announced its recipients for the 2022 CRCA Scholar-Athlete award. The Navy women's rowing team was at the forefront of this announcement as the Mids had eight of its members recognized for their success both on and off the water. May graduates
Hanna Prince (Buffalo, N.Y.) and
Sky Schork (Villanova, Pa.) led the way as the duo was honored for the third consecutive year.
For the 2022 season, all honorees needed to be in their second, third or fourth season of eligibility, rowed in her institution's NCAA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or raced at their respective conference championship and have a 3.50 cumulative GPA or higher through the end of the fall semester. Prince and Schork graduated after majoring in cyber operations and mechanical engineering at the Naval Academy, respectively. Fellow 2022 classmate
Brooke Campbell (Los Alamitos, Calif.) also earned scholar-athlete recognition as for the second straight the operations research major posted a GPA of 3.50 or better while racing with the Mids' first varsity eight crew for the majority of the season. The fourth newly commissioned officer to garner this honor was
Lucy Freidenrich (Ridgefield, Conn.), who raced during the regular season with Navy's first varsity four boat while studying astrophysics.
Rising seniors
Sofia Ferguson (Edmond, Okla. - English) and
Millie Oldham (Nashville, Tenn. - chemistry) have been named as CRCA Scholar-Athletes in each of the first two years they have been eligible for the honor. Navy had two first-time honorees noted in the CRCA announcement: rising juniors
Dani Baldwin (Lake Elmo, Minn. - oceanography) and
Katie Roland (Fairfield, Conn. - information technology).
On the water this spring, the Mids challenged themselves with high-level national competitions at the Oak Ridge Cardinal, Doc Hosea and Lake Wheeler Invites in preparation for the 2022 Patriot League Championship. At the year-ending regatta, Navy placed third overall in the team standings, just four points out of first, after winning the V4 classification and coming in runner-up in the 2V8 contest. The Mids' V8 crew also medalled as they finished third overall.
