BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its athletes of the week and Navy cross country claimed three of the four awards. Alex Rizzo (Bronxville, N.Y.) claimed Male Runner of the Week, while
Emily Boutin (Chicopee, Mass.) was tabbed Female Runner of the Week. Freshman
Mia Claire Kezal (Saco, Maine) rounded out the Mids' selections, earning her second consecutive Rookie of the Week accolade.
The trio helped the Mids sweep the annual Navy Invitational with Boutin winning the women's 6K and Rizzo claiming the men's 4.9-mile run title. Kezal was Navy's top freshman, posting a sixth-place finish.
Navy returns to action on Friday, Sept. 30 as the Midshipmen travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
Boutin won individual medalist honors with a first-place finish, clocking a time of 21:37.8 to finish first of 84 competitors in the 6K event. The time was her second-best of the season and the third fastest time for Navy this season. Boutin won the race by five seconds ahead of teammate
Ellie Abraham (21:42.8). As a team, Navy posted a team-low score of 28 to win the event by 29 points over second-place Richmond (57 points).
Kezal was Navy's top freshman finisher at the Invite. She posted a time of 21:59.6 in the 6K race, finishing as the top freshman in the meet. Her time is the second-best time by a Navy freshman this season, behind her own season-best time of 21:54.3. Kezal finished sixth overall out of 84 competitors.
Rizzo was the individual medalist on the men's side with a time of 23:47.1 in the 4.9-mile race, edging teammate Sam Keeny (23:49.5) by two seconds. Competing in his first meet of the season, the senior finished first out of 98 competitors. Rizzo's performance helped Navy claim the team title with a low team score of 21, besting second-place George Mason (56 points) by 35 total points.
