ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After helping the Midshipmen pick up a pair of victories last weekend, freshman
Sia Chaudry of the Navy women's tennis team was recognized as the Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Chaudry went a perfect 3-0 on the weekend, tallying a pair of singles wins at the No. 2 spot while also pairing with junior
Samantha Johns for a doubles win in the first part of Saturday's doubleheader.
The Midlothian, Virginia native opened Saturday by partnering with Johns in the No. 2 doubles match against Saint Francis' Anoek Pruijmboom and Valeria Vinces, where the Navy duo knocked off the Red Flash pairing in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-2), to help the Mids sweep doubles play.
Chaudry continued her strong day by defeating Bente Vandeputte in two sets, 6-0, 6-4, to claim the No. 2 singles point and increase the Navy lead in what would become a 6-1 team win.
Drawing St. Bonaventure's Amelia Haley in the back half of the Saturday doubleheader, Chaudry once again scored a two-set victory on the second singles court, beating Haley via a 6-3, 6-2 decision that was the clinching point in the eventual 6-1 Navy victory.
Chaudry now sits at 12-6 in singles play, also posting a 7-7 doubles mark so far in her rookie season.
For Chaudry, she is the first player in the Patriot League to be recognized this season as Women's Tennis Player of the Week. She also becomes the first Navy player to win weekly league honors since then-freshman
Emily Tannenbaum did so following the conclusion of the regular season last year on April 19, 2022.
Navy returns to play on Sunday, Jan. 29 when the Mids face Morgan State at 10 a.m. at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
