SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Navy women's tennis team finished off a trip to the west coast on Sunday, wrapping the third day of action for the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Complex.

Sia Chaudry going 3-0 in singles play, the Midshipmen posted a 10-8 overall record for the weekend, tallying a 6-6 mark in singles competition and 4-2 mark on the doubles courts while facing opponents from Loyola Marymount, San Diego, UC San Diego and Denver. Senior captain
Stella Ribaudo also ended with a winning record for the three-day trip, going 2-1 in both singles and doubles play.
The Mids opened the tournament on Friday by sweeping doubles action against players from Loyola Marymount, as the doubles pairing of Ribaudo and junior
Emily Tannenbaum notched a 6-4 win over the LMU duo of Carlota Molina and Isabella Tcherkes-Zade, while Chaudry and senior
Samantha Johns teamed up to beat Kim-Michaela Zahraj and Piper Freeman, 6-2. Moving into singles play, Molina was able to defeat last year's Tournament MVP in Tannenbaum by a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 score, while Chaudry started her singles run with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Tcherkes-Zade. Zahraj then won against Johns in a 7-6 (5), 6-3 match, while Ribaudo scored a 6-3, 6-4 win over Freeman to round out Friday.
Saturday started with Ribaudo and Tannenbaum pulling out a 6-4 win over the UC San Diego combination of Katelyn Vu and Kelly Leung, but the San Diego team of Jordyn McBride and Filippa Bruu Syersen beat Chaudry and Johns, 6-3, to spoil doubles play. In singles action, Tannenbaum earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Bruu-Syversen, but McBride was able to knock off Johns in a 6-0, 6-0 decision. Chaudry battled back after dropping the first set to Leung, winning by a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 score, while Ribaudo also won in three sets over Vu, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (8).
Navy closed out the weekend with doubles matches with Denver, as Andrea Burguete Beltran and Britt Pursell had a 6-0 win against Ribaudo and Tannenbaum while Chaudry and Johns posted a 7-5 victory over Karsyn Evans and Louise Wikander. Singles play then saw Chaudry respond with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 win against Pursell to maintain a perfect singles record, but Burguete Beltran knocked off Tannenbaum, 7-5, 7-5, Wikander defeated Johns, 6-2, 6-3, and Evans notched a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Ribaudo to end the final day of competition.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Chaudry was given the SDVTC Sportsmanship Award while Tannenbaum received the SDVTC Leadership Award.
"I think the ladies battled and competed well all weekend," added Puryear. "There was a high level of competition, which I feel we rose up to meet. The objective is to learn with every match and to keep progressing throughout the entire fall season, win or lose. This event was another great step in that direction. Congratulations to Sia and Emily on winning the Sportsmanship and Leadership awards respectively. They both, and all the ladies, represented the Naval Academy in an exemplary manner all weekend. We are very proud."
Navy returns to action on Thursday, as selected players will head to the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship in Lynchburg, Va. Regional action is slated to go from Oct. 19-23.
