Saturday's Air Force-Navy Football Game Sold Out

10/17/2023 2:03:00 PM

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Saturday's home football game against No. 22 Air Force is sold out, Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk announced today.  Kickoff is set for 12 noon and the game will be televised nationally by CBS and broadcast nationally on the Navy Radio Network.

Navy enters play 3-3 and winners of two straight, while Air Force is 6-0 and winners of 11-consecutive games dating back to last year, which is tied with Penn State for the fourth-longest winning streak in the country.

The game is the first leg of round-robin play between Army, Air Force and Navy in the battle for the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy. Army plays Air Force in Denver on Nov. 4, while the annual Army-Navy Game presented by USAA will take place on Dec. 9 in Foxboro, Mass.

Saturday will be a "Day of Legends" at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium as both 1963 Heisman Trophy winner Roger Staubach and National Football Foundation Hall of Fame coach Paul Johnson will be honored.

Staubach's #12 will be placed on the turf at the 12-yard line on the opposite ends of Joe Bellino's #27 that was placed on the turf in 2019. Bellino and Staubach are Navy's only two Heisman Trophy winners. Staubach will be surrounded on the field by his teammates from the legendary 1963 Cotton Bowl team that was ranked as high as #2 in the country and defeated both Notre Dame and Army.

Johnson will be honored for being named to the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2023. Johnson took over at Navy prior to the 2002 season, with the Midshipmen coming off the worst two-year stretch (1-20) in the Academy's history. After going 2-10 in his first year, Johnson steered Navy back into national prominence, compiling a 43-19 record with five bowl appearances and two bowl victories. More importantly, Johnson went 5-1 against Air Force and 6-0 against Army leading Navy to five-consecutive Commander-In-Chief's Trophies.

Tickets still remain for Navy's final two home games against UAB on Nov. 11 and East Carolina on Nov. 18. You can purchase tickets online at navysports.com or by calling 1-800-US4-NAVY.

Seven of the top 10 attended games in Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium history were games against Air Force, including a record 38,792 fans for the 2017 Navy-Air Force game.
