Llewellyn’s Pace Crisp Navy Offense in 3-0 Win Over Loyola

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Twins Jamie Llewellyn and Jordan Llewellyn combined for over half of the kills recorded by the Navy volleyball team during a three-set victory over Loyola, Wednesday night at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis.  The Mids (13-5, 5-4) posted a 25-16, 25-20, 25-18 win over the Greyhounds (9-11, 4-6).

The Llewellyn's tallied 25 of Navy's 44 kills in the 75-minute match.

"We had a great team meeting this week during which we took a really deep look into some of our key stats through the first half of the league season," said Navy head coach Paco Labrador.  "To their credit, the team practiced with great focus toward improvement and that effort showed tonight.

"I thought we worked really hard for each other, especially the players away from the ball through covering, making in-or-out calls and giving great energy between points."

Set One
The Mids used a 4-0 run to take a 12-8 lead.  After a Loyola sideout made the score 12-9, Navy ran off the next eight points to build a 20-9 cushion.  Anna Klemeyer was the leading scorer during that 12-1 spurt as she posted four kills -- two off of Loyola overpasses -- and added a block assist.

Set Two
Navy seemingly was on its way to a 2-0 advantage as it gained an early 11-5 lead.  However, Loyola climbed right back into the stanza with its first extended run of the match and soon the score was tied at 15-15 and the Greyhounds eventually took a 17-16 lead.

The score was tied at 18-18 when two Jordan Llewellyn kills sandwiched around a Loyola attack error gave Navy a 21-18 lead.  Following a Loyola timeout, Klemeyer and Ashley Warren combined for a block to give the Mids a four-point lead, which was enough for them to win the set.

Set Three
The Mids took leads of 9-3 and 13-6 only to see the margin dwindle to three points at 16-13.  A kill by Jamie Llewellyn was followed by a kill from Jordan Llewellyn to provide a bit more breathing room at 18-13.  The Greyhounds were able to make it a four-point difference at 18-14 and 19-15 before the Mids took a 24-17 lead.

Statistical Summary
The Mids were able to score points on 39 of Loyola's 56 serves and the Greyhounds scored on just 37 of Navy's 73 serves.  Included in that was Navy scoring on 78 percent (15 of 19) of Loyola's serves in the third set.

Navy recorded a hitting percentage of .327 as it tallied 44 kills and just nine attack errors on 107 attempts.  Conversely, Loyola was limited to 32 kills and registered 17 attack errors on 95 swings for a hitting percentage of .158.

The Mids also held an 8-3 edge in blocks.

Jamie Llewellyn posted 14 kills, a .414 hitting percentage and four digs, while Jordan Llewellyn tallied 11 kills, a .258 hitting effort, two aces, seven digs and five blocks.

Averi Miller dished out 34 assists in the match, including the 2,500th of her career.

"Jamie took some really incredible swings tonight," said Labrador.  "She was connecting well with Averi and mixing her swings throughout the match."

Anna Klemeyer led Navy with six blocks and Hannah Hoover scooped up a match-best 12 digs.  Additionally, Maggie Bodman hit .500 on six kills and one error over her 10 attempts.
