WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Army's Mackenzie Lynch recorded 23 kills and hit well over .300 to lead the Black Knights to a four-set victory over Navy, Saturday night at Gillis Field House in West Point. Army (9-6, 6-1), which did not play a match Friday, won a 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22 decision over a Navy (11-5, 3-4) team that played a five-set match Friday night at Lehigh.
The Star Match between the teams will be played Nov. 11 in Annapolis.
"We didn't have an answer for either of their outside hitters, Mackenzie Lynch or Savannah Bray (15 kills)," said Navy head coach
Paco Labrador. "We tried everything and came up short. We have to solidify that area this week and put our attention to American (Friday, 7 p.m., Annapolis).
Set One
The teams were tied at 8-8 when Army went on a 6-0 run to build a 14-8 lead. Navy winnowed the margin down to as few as three points at 15-12, but the Black Knights soon opened a 20-13 advantage.
Set Two
Army tried to separate from Navy as the home team took a 13-8 lead, but the visitors soon made it a one-point set at 14-13. It soon was a 19-17 Army lead when it scored back-to-back points that made it a 21-17 score. A Navy sideout was followed by two more points from the Black Knights that took them to a 23-18 advantage.
Set Three
The teams were tied at 12-12 when a 5-0 Navy run gave it a 17-12 cushion. The Mids maintained a lead of at least three points (17-14, 20-17) over the remainder of the set.
Set Four
Navy was able to build an 18-15 lead, but Army scored the next five points to jump in front, 20-18. Navy made it a one-point difference at 20-19 and 21-20, but back-to-back points for the Black Knights gave them a 23-20 lead. The teams traded sideouts the rest of the set.
Statistical Notes
Both teams took 170 attempts in the match. Army totaled a .212 hitting percentage (59 kills, 23 errors) and Navy hit .182 (51 kills, 20 errors). Army held a 90-80 lead in digs. The Black Knights also were more productive at the service line as they totaled four aces and six errors to Navy's one ace and eight errors.

Jordan Llewellyn and
Averi Miller all recorded double-doubles for Navy. Jamie posted 17 kills and 16 digs, Jordan finished with 16 kills and 15 digs and Miller contributed 38 assists and 14 digs. Also reaching double figures in digs were

Hannah Hoover with 13.
"It was great seeing Jamie get back into her swing," said Labrador. "She has been working hard to return to full strength."
Army's Lynch and Bray combined for 38 kills and a .318 hitting percentage (38 kills, 9 errors, 91 attempts).
