Tommy Kim Paces Men’s Tennis Team at River City Tennis Open

RICHMOND, Va. -- Tommy Kim led the Navy men's tennis team with a 4-0 record during the River City Tennis Open held this weekend in Richmond, Va.  Navy as a team combined for an 8-2 record in doubles and a 14-12 record in singles.

Kim won both of his singles matches, defeating Edson Sanchez of James Madison, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), and Lukas Choi from Villanova, 6-2, 6-2.  He also teamed with Aaron Gu to win a pair of doubles matches.  The Mids first won a 7-5 decision over Harrison Lee and Mario Pena from James Madison, then posted a 6-3 victory over Ryan Nguyen and Josh Vestal of Villanova.

Finishing the three-day tournament with a 3-0 record in singles was J.J. Etterbeek.  He won a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) match against Esteve Agusti from James Madison, then defeated Eitan Khromchenko of Villanova, 6-4, 6-0.  Etterbeek won the first set of his Sunday match against Noe Macquart of Campbell by the score of 6-4 before Macquart retired due to an injury.

Also posting 2-0 records in doubles were the team of Jason Kim and Steve Nguyen, as well as the tandem of Herrick Legaspi and Nicholas Nguyen.  

Navy will play in a pair of tournaments this weekend.  The majority of the team will remain in Annapolis and compete in the Navy Blue Invitational, with several players heading west to take part on the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic.  Both events run Friday through Sunday.
