Opening Kick
•   Navy and UAB meet for the first time on the gridiron when the two square off on Saturday afternoon (3:30 pm) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (34,000) in Annapolis. Saturday's contest is presented by Build.Submarines.com(.)
•   Navy, picked 9th in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll, enters Saturday's game in a five-way tie for 6th place with UAB, Rice, USF and Charlotte. The Mids defeated Charlotte earlier this year and lost to USF. Navy does not play Rice. The winner of Saturday's Navy-UAB game would move into a tie for 5th place if FAU loses to East Carolina.
•   Navy will play the longest regular-season schedule in the country this year. The Mids played the nation's first regular-season college football game of the season on August 26 against Notre Dame at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland and will play the final regular-season game of the year on Dec. 9 vs. Army at Gillette Stadium in New England.
•   Navy needs to beat UAB, ECU and SMU to become bowl eligible. The Army game is after bowl selections are announced. UAB needs to beat Navy, Temple and North Texas in its final 3 games to become bowl eligible.
•   The Mids, however, will have an opportunity to garner a share of the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy with a win over Army thanks to the Black Knights' 23-3 upset over Air Force last Saturday.
•    Kickoff specialist
Evan Warren (Sr.) will be absent from Saturday's game against UAB, but it's for a good reason. Warren is a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship and interviews are taking place Friday and Saturday in Washington, D.C. Warren, who is a political science major with honors, carries a 4.0 grade-point average and is trying to become just the third football player in school history to be selected for a Rhodes Scholarship and the first since Stansfield Turner in 1947.
•    Navy is the only school in the FBS to start 4 different quarterbacks:
Tai Lavatai (Sr.),
Blake Horvath (So.),
Braxton Woodson (Fr.) and
Xavier Arline (Sr.).
•    Navy has won 66-consecutive home games when leading after 3 quarters which is the longest streak in the country. The last time Navy lost at home when leading after 3 quarters was against Akron in 1999.
•   Penalties have hurt the Mids this year, especially in American Athletic Conference games. In its 5 conference games to date (Memphis, USF, North Texas, Charlotte and Temple) Navy has been called for 31 penalties, while the opposition has been called for just 8, with 5 of those being called against Charlotte. North Texas was the first Navy opponent not to be penalized in a game since Army in the 2016 Army-Navy Game presented by USAA, while Temple pulled off the same feat last week.
•   UAB has 7 touchdown drives this year under 1:00, which is tied for the 3rd most in the country. Navy, meanwhile, has 6 touchdown drives under 1:00, tied for the 6th most in the country.
•   A win on Saturday against UAB would give Navy 3 wins at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the most since going 6-0 in 2019.
•  Â
Donald Berniard Jr. (Sr. / Nose Guard) has started 38-straight games for Navy. That is the second-longest streak in the FBS for an interior defensive lineman and the longest streak by a nose guard. He has started every game in which he has played.
•  Â
Landon Robinson (So. / Nose Guard) is the only nose guard in the country to play on the kickoff team.
•
Riley Riethman's (Jr. / Punter) 43.9 career average is the best average in school history. He is averaging 44.9 yards per punt this season which would break the school record if he can maintain it.
•   Navy's defense leads the nation in fumbles recovered with 11.
•   Navy's 2 interceptions thrown (both against Air Force) are tied for the 2nd fewest in the country.
•   Navy's 5 turnovers lost his year ties for the 3rd fewest in the country.
•   Navy is 2nd in the country in turnover margin at +1.50.
•   Navy's red zone defense is tied for 6th in the country, allowing opponents to score just 68 percent of the time.
•   UAB is fifth in the country in completion percentage (.727).
•   UAB is fifth in the country in fumbles recovered (9).
