Navy Gymnastics Readies for All-Academy Showdown on Saturday in Texas

Mids have won four straight All-Academy competitions

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Two weeks after knocking off archrival Army in the 2023 Star Meet, the Navy gymnastics team will be back in action this Saturday night at the 2023 All-Academy Championship. The Mids (2-0) will take on the Black Knights (1-3) of Army and the Falcons of Air Force (2-0) in a battle for service academy supremacy at The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The All-Academy Championship will be held in conjunction with the WOGA Classic and Valeri Liukin Invitational, two renown youth competitions. First touch is on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. local).

Navy at the All-Academy Championship
An annual competition between the three Division I service academies' gymnastics teams, Air Force controlled the series from 2013-18 with six straight victories before Navy has taken the trophy home to Annapolis in each of the past four matchups.

Most Recent All-Academy Championship: February 12, 2022
One week after a 17.7-point victory over Army in the 2022 Star Meet, the Navy gymnastics team doubled down on its dominance versus service academy rivals as the Mids captured their fourth straight All-Academy Championship with a 12.25 advantage over the field of Army and Air Force. Competing at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Navy outscored its rivals on four events on its way to a 393.5 final score. Army placed second with 381.25 points to hold off Air Force, who recorded a team score of 379.9.
 
Navy's depth was on display on Saturday night as five different Mids staked claim on individual event wins. Team captain Dhiren Lutchman, who was victorious on the parallel bars, was joined by a quartet of underclassmen as sophomores Syam Buradagunta and Ronan McQuillan won the floor exercise and pommel horse disciplines, respectively before the freshmen duo of Isaiah Drake and Riley Rose tied for top honors on the high bar.
 
As a team, Navy scored 68.05 points on the floor exercise, 65.5 on the pommel horse, 65.25 on the rings, 69.5 on the vault, 63.05 on the parallel bars and 62.15 on the high bar.

Last Time Out: vs. Army, February 4
With the 2023 Gymnastics Star on the line, Army and Navy battled throughout each and every one of the 60 combined routines on Saturday afternoon at the Gross Center on the campus of the U.S. Military Academy. Separated by just 0.1 points after the third and fourth events, the Mids used a 1.5-point swing during the parallel bars rotation to jump into the lead and hold on for the 394.05 to 393.15 victory over the Black Knights, thereby securing a Star win for the fifth straight Army-Navy competition.
 
The trio of Connor Van LooCaleb Hickey and Isaiah Drake led the Mids' individual effort as all three gymnasts placed first on events. Hickey was clutch throughout the contest as he started out with a dominant 0.55-point margin of victory on the floor exercise before closing out the meet with a runner-up result on the high bar and third-place effort on the parallel bars. Drake was Navy's second individual winner as he won the rings by 0.4 points. Van Loo showcased his senior composure and leadership as he placed first on the vault and second on the floor exercise.
  
As a team, Navy scored 67.55 points on the floor exercise, 60.85 on the pommel horse, 65.75 on the rings, 70.25 on the vault, 67.15 on the parallel bars and 62.5 on the high bar.
