Navy freshman golfer Chip Deegan (Newport Beach, Calif.) has been named the Patriot League Men's Golfer of the Week following his third-place finish at the Carpetbagger Classic last weekend. Deegan, who owns a 73.57 stroke average, is the first Navy men's golfer this season to receive the weekly Patriot League honor.

Deegan, who has seen action in five tournaments between the fall and spring seasons, recorded his first-collegiate top-five finish to lead Navy to a third-place finish (15 teams) at the Carpetbagger Classic (299-295=594, +18) last weekend at the Worthington Manor Country Club in Urbana, Md. He shot back-to-back rounds of par (72-72=144) to finish in a three-way tie for third, just 4 strokes behind the individual medalist and 3 behind the second-place finisher. The third-place finish marked Deegan's second-career top-10 finish as he closed out the fall season with an eighth-place showing at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate played at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powell's Point, N.C.

Deegan and his Navy teammates will be back in action next week when they make the trip to Williamsburg, Va. to play in the two-day, 54-hole Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate played at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Course. Action is slated to begin on Monday with a 9:00 am shotgun start.
