| Box Score 2 ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team (11-16) started the weekend with a 6-1 victory over Coppin State (0-8), Friday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.

Coppin State brought only five players, which meant the Eagles could field only two doubles teams.  As a result, Navy needed to win just one of the two doubles matches to earn the available point.  The Mids won both by the identical score of 6-3.  Finn Garner (Sr., Arnold, Md.) and Christian Pumpelly (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) earned the victory at the No. 1 flight, with Nicholas Nguyen (Jr., McLean, Va.) and Gavin Segraves (Sr., Charlottesville, Va.) recording the win at No. 2 doubles.

Navy's lead actually was 2-0 after the end of doubles as the Mids earned an automatic point due to Coppin State not being able to enter a player at No. 6 singles.

Eric Liu (Jr., Canton, Mich.) increased the advantage to 3-0 when he won a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 5 singles.  Aniketh Ayinala (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) earned the match-clinching fourth team point when he won, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.

The score became 5-0 after Nathan Nguyen (Fr., McLean, Va.) posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.  Pumpelly followed with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 victory at the No. 3 flight.

Navy will play two matches on Sunday.  Half of the team will travel to Winchester, Mass., to play Boston U. at 10 a.m. in the first Patriot League match of the season for both teams.  The remaining half of the team will stay in Annapolis for a 9 a.m. match against Long Island.
