ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The No. 4 Navy lightweight rowing team will be in action this Saturday on the road with a quick trip to the nation's capital for a top-five showdown with the No. 5 Georgetown Hoyas. Closely ranked in the national standings, Saturday's contest on the Potomac River promises to be competitive throughout the three-race slate. The matchup between the Mids (1-2) and Hoyas (0-2) is slated to begin at 12 p.m. and culminate at 12:40 p.m. with the first varsity eights competing for the Forster Cup.
The third race on Saturday will be the second varsity eight competition at 12:20 p.m. Navy will also be bringing along its fourth varsity crew to enter in the 3V8 event.
Most Recent Navy-Georgetown Matchup: April 9, 2022
The No. 2 Navy lightweight rowing team had a standout day of competition on April 9 with a clean sweep of seven combined races versus No. 5 Georgetown and No. 7 Columbia at Overpeck Park. Taking on the Lions in a series of four races in the morning and the Hoyas in three more in the afternoon, the Mids collected seven wins with each victory coming by two or more seconds. Navy will return to Hubbard Hall with a pair of trophies as the program's first varsity defeated Columbia for the WIT Cup and Georgetown for the Forster Cup.
In the final race of the day with the Forster Cup up for grabs, Navy's first varsity eight left nothing up to chance and knocked off Georgetown by 4.2 seconds. The Mids' top crew recorded a victorious time of 5:51.80. The Hoyas finished with a 5:56.00 time.

Forster Cup
Named after John J. Forster, the Forster Cup is awarded annually to the winner of the Georgetown/Navy first varsity eight race. A 1970 graduate of Georgetown, Forster represented the United States at the 1972 Munich Olympics, as well as the 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1977 World Championships. Forster is a United States Marine Corps veteran, who was awarded two Purple Hearts, while serving in Vietnam.
The inaugural cup race was rowed in 2013 and won by Georgetown. Since that first competition, Navy has won seven straight meetings.
