Women’s Tennis Falls to Boston in Regular Season Finale

Navy’s Nine-Match Win Streak Snapped, Ends Regular Season at 4-1 in the Patriot League

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's tennis team (18-5, 4-1 PL) saw its nine-match winning streak snapped on Saturday, as the Midshipmen dropped their regular season finale, 7-0, to Patriot League foe Boston University (14-4, 3-0 PL) at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium in Annapolis, Md.

Playing the Terriers outside in the Mids' first dual match of the spring at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium, Navy could not slow down in doubles competition, as Victoria Carlsten and Emily Zhao worked out a 6-1 win on the No. 3 court against the sophomore duo of Parvathi Shanker and Kate Lee, while Shelly Yaloz and Michelle Kleynerman defeated senior captain Casey Accola and freshman Sia Chaudry in the No. 2 spot to clinch the doubles point.

On the top court, sophomore Emily Tannenbaum and junior Samantha Johns were up 4-3 over Erica Di Battista and Kaitlin Tan before that matchup was abandoned.

Tan was able to put the Terriers up 2-0 when she shut out Johns, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4 position, and Navya Vadlamudi put Boston on verge of clinching the dual match by beating Lee by a 6-2, 6-1 score on the fifth court. Kleynerman proved to be the clincher at No. 2 with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Chaudry, while Zhao defeated sophomore Sylvia Eklund, 7-5, 6-1, in the No. 6 matchup to extend the lead.

Finishing up the day, Carlsten was able to outlast Accola in a three-set battle on the third court with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory over the Navy captain, while Yaloz spoiled Tannenbaum's chances at another program record, as the Terriers' No. 1 player overcame a tough first set to knock off Tannenbaum, 1-6, 6-4, 15-13.
