WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navy women's rugby team (10-7-1) cruised into the semifinals of the 7s Collegiate Championship with two shutout victories on Friday at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Washington, D.C.
Competing as the No. 2 seed in the west bracket, the Mids opened the tournament with a 24-0 victory over No. 7 seed Texas A&M. Navy met No. 3 seed Michigan in the quarterfinals and won the matchup, 31-0, to guarantee a top-four finish in the Premier Cup.
Navy will face No. 1 seed Brown in the semifinals tomorrow at 5:40 p.m.

The winner of the semifinal contest will advance to the championship game to face the winner of No. 1 seed Army and No. 2 seed Penn State from the east bracket. That match will be played at 8:35 p.m.
No. 2 Navy vs. No. 7 Texas A&M (Win, 24-0)
Penalties against the Mids allowed the Aggies to push inside the five-meter line in the third minute, but Navy's defense forced a turnover.
Marissa Meyer scooped up the loose ball and sprinted all the way into Navy's try zone for the first score of the contest in the third minute.
Megan Leitz made the conversion kick to give Navy a 7-0 lead.
The Mids went back on the offensive late in the first half after winning a scrum to advance inside Texas A&M's 22-meter line.
Siena Hall sprinted down the left sideline for a big gain to push the Mids inside the five-meter line. Navy switched its attacking direction to the right and Meyer dove across the try line for her second try of the match in the sixth minute to increase the lead to 12-0 at halftime.
Orieona Howard received the second-half kickoff and made a pass to
Chrissi Foster following her kick return effort. Foster then made a cut up the middle of the pitch and ran over 60 meters for Navy's third try of the match. Leitz added her second conversion kick following the score to put the Mids ahead, 19-0.
Texas A&M committed a turnover after receiving the kickoff and Navy quickly grabbed the ball to regain possession. Leitz broke a pair of tackles on the left half of the pitch and ran over 30 meters for a try in the eighth minute to give Navy a 24-point advantage.
The Aggies made a push into their offensive zone late in the contest, but the Mids held strong over the final minutes to maintain the shutout.
No. 2 Navy vs. No. 3 Michigan (Win, 31-0)
Meyer opened the scoring again for Navy in its quarterfinal match against Michigan. She scored a try just one minute into the contest and a made conversion kick from
Abby Hershner gave Navy an early 7-0 lead.
Charlotte d'Halluin built the lead to 12-0 with a try in the second minute. Meyer scored her fourth try of the tournament just before the six-minute mark and another successful conversion kick from Hershner put the Mids up, 19-0, at intermission.
Kyndall Wyngaard struck for the first try of the second half in the ninth minute to increase Navy's lead to 24-0.
Team captain
Eliza Herring scored the final try of the match in the 13th minute. Leitz added an additional two points with a converted kick to bring Navy's point total to 31 in the contest.
Meyer led the Mids in scoring with 20 points on four tries. The sophomore now leads the Mids with nine tries in 7s games this season.
Leitz scored her sixth try of the 7s season and made three conversion kicks to score 11 points.
