ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The No. 17 Navy heavyweight rowing team (0-1) will take part in a multi-team, two-session competition on Sunday at the Occoquan Collegiate Invitational hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. After a morning of racing against #15 Drexel, R/V Saint Joseph's, R/V Hobart and Jacksonville for Navy, all teams will advance to the afternoon finals. The morning action is set to begin at 10 a.m. and run through 11:50 a.m. before the finals are slated to commence at 1:30 p.m. and conclude an hour later. The event will be held at the Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax Station, Virginia.

The Mids' official schedule on Saturday will consist of a varsity eight race against Saint Joseph's at 10 a.m. and a second varsity eight race against the Hawks at 10:40 a.m. before switching gears and taking on the Statesmen and Dolphins in a three-team third varsity eight contest at 11:20 a.m. Navy's morning racing will conclude with its fourth and fifth varsity eights taking off down the Occoquan versus the fourth varsities from Drexel and Hobart at 11:40 a.m.

That morning V8 and 2V8 schedule will be mirrored with three other one-on-one matchups (JU/Drexel, Marietta/Georgetown and Holy Cross/Hobart). The afternoon session will consist of the four individual race winners in each of the V8 and 2V8 classifications taking part in a grand final, while the four runner-ups will race in a petite final. The afternoon races begin with the petite final of the first varsity eight at 1:30 p.m. followed by the grand final at 1:40 p.m. All of the finals will go off in 10-minute increments.

Most Recent Occoquan Invitational - April 10, 2022
The Navy heavyweight rowing program turned in an impressive day of racing on Sunday, April 10 as the team showcased its speed and depth at the Occoquan Collegiate Invitational hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. Competing in morning duel races and afternoon finals, the Mids came away with seven victories over eight events in the regatta that was held at the Occoquan Reservoir at Sandy Run Regional Park in Northern Virginia.

The Mids' first varsity knocked off four opponents on Sunday starting with the No. 21 Crusaders of Holy Cross. In the morning head-to-head matchup, Navy rolled to a 22.25-second victory, 6:47.65 to 7:09.90. The Mids picked up their pace in the afternoon and finished atop the leaderboard of the grand final with a time of 6:31.50. Navy's time was 4.4 seconds ahead of No. 16 Drexel's 6:35.9. No. 23 Georgetown and R/V Hobart placed third and fourth in the final with respective times of 6:48.3 and 7:05.2.
 
Last Time Out - April 1 vs. Princeton
The No. 15 Navy heavyweight rowing team opened its 2023 season with the tough task of racing the No. 9 Princeton Tigers on the squad's home waters on Saturday morning. Going head-to-head with the Tigers over a five-race slate at Lake Carnegie, the Mids raced hard throughout and finished the meet with a victory in the fifth varsity contest.
 
The action on Saturday started out with the first varsity eight crews setting off down a 2,000-meter stretch of Lake Carnegie with the Navy-Princeton Cup on the line. The current holders of the trophy, the Tigers made sure that they would retain the hardware as they led wire-to-wire over the Mids with a 5:34.1 to 5:56.4 final decision.
