ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy rifle head coach Mike Anti announced that rising senior Mark Dely (Fort Wayne, Ind.) has been selected by his teammates to serve as the Mids' team captain for the 2023-24 season.
 
"We have a great group of hardworking and talented athletes on our team, and I am truly honored that they chose me to lead them into the next season," Dely said. "I am confident that we are going to do really great things this upcoming year and continue to train hard and get better every day. This position is not something that I will take for granted, and I am looking forward to our competitions starting this fall."
 
Dely, a three-year letter winner, has appeared in 25 matches over his first three seasons at Navy during which he has compiled averages of 580.7 points per match in smallbore, 594.0 points in air rifle, and an aggregate average of 1,174.7.
 
Along with his efforts on the range, Dely has been recognized for his efforts in the classroom, as he was named a Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholastic All-American following the 2020-21 season. In addition, Dely recorded a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the fall to represent the team as Navy's 2022-23 Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the GARC. Each team in the conference has one honoree based off of grades in the fall semester.
 
The rising senior has also been named to the Naval Academy's Superintendent's List once, along with being a member of the Commandant's List five times and Dean's List four times.
 
Last season, Dely proved to be a solid contributor during season. He appeared in 11 contests as a junior, recording season averages of 567.4 in smallbore, 573.7 in air rifle, and 1,141.1 in aggregate.
