ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The first varsity eight crew from the women's rowing team and Joshua Boamah from the men's track & field team shared this week's Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) Athlete-of-the-Week accolade, presented by Northrop Grumman. The women from the first varsity eight crew were honored for their efforts at the 2023 Patriot League Championship, while Boamah was a standout at the 2023 IC4A / ECAC Championship.
Trailing Boston in the team standings, 27 to 24 through two contests, the first varsity eight race was setting up for a winner-take-all final. The two fastest boats in the conference, both BU and Navy flexed their muscles and sped away from the field over the first 1,500 meters of the 2,000-meter contest. Still trailing the Terriers with less than a quarter of the race to go, the Mids found that next gear and nearly pulled even with under 400 meters remaining. Navy's momentum overwhelmed Boston and the Terriers were unable to counter down the stretch. The Mids' dominant final sprint helped them complete the comeback and clock in 3.548 seconds ahead of the Terriers, 6:36.892 to 6:40.440.
For their valiant efforts in the first varsity eight race the crew of team captain
Sofia Ferguson,
Tenlea Radack,
