Wrestling Ranked 16th Heading Into Virginia Duals

MANHEIM, Pa. - The Navy wrestling team held its No. 16 ranking in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division I Top 25 poll, which was announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Mids have been ranked in seven-consecutive polls after being tabbed 19th on Nov. 14.

Navy owns a 6-0 record this season, which is its best start since 2017-18. The Mids have won their last eight duals dating back to last season, which is their longest winning streak since they won 10-straight duals between the 2004-05 and 2005-06 campaigns. Navy has scored at least 20 points in all six duals this season and has outscored its opponents, 188-48. Additionally, the Mids have won 46 of the 60 bouts and have earned bonus points in 22 of their wins (47.8).

Navy won its sixth dual of the season on Dec. 21 in its Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) opener against American (38-0). The win marked the first time the Mids shut out an EIWA foe since 1989 when they beat Franklin & Marshall, 37-0. Additionally, Navy has claimed victories over then No. 23 Illinois (23-18), then No. 16 Pitt (21-12), Morgan State (39-0), VMI (40-6) and Ohio (27-12).

The Mids will look to beat two more ranked opponents this weekend at the 43rd annual Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va. Navy will face No. 11 South Dakota State (4 p.m.) on Friday and No. 19 Oklahoma (noon) on Saturday.

Methodology
The NWCA Division I Men's Wrestling Coaches Poll is voted on by two coaches from each Division I wrestling conference. Each first-place vote is worth 25 points, 24 points for a second-place vote, 23 for a third-place vote and so on through to one point for a 25th-place vote. The poll is based on dual meet results. Teams who are not competing this season are not included in the voting process.
