Fall Racing Begins for Lightweight Crew at Navy Day Regatta

Mids to enter four crews in the head format race

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy lightweight rowing program will begin the fall portion of its race schedule this Sunday at the 2024 Navy Day Regatta. The event, which is hosted by Saint Joseph's University, will see Navy enter four crews in head-style time trial races down a 4,000-meter stretch of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia beginning at 10:20 a.m. The fields for the men's collegiate novice eights and men's collegiate eights competitions are comprised of Northeast and Mid-Atlantic institutions.

The action for the Mids on Sunday starts with a pair of novice entries in the 10:20 a.m. event. Delaware (two), Drexel and Stockton will also have crews racing down the Schuylkill in hopes of posting the fastest time for that division. A little over two hours later at 12:30 p.m., Navy's first and second varsity eight teams will take to the water and participate in the men's collegiate eights event. The Mids will be racing against 24 other crews from 11 different schools in that contest.

At last year's Navy Day Regatta, the lightweights were successful in both events in which they raced as they posted the fastest time in the collegiate lightweight eights event with a time of 12:03.97 before coming in second in the collegiate novice eights with a 13:21.75 result.

Sunday marks the first varsity collegiate competition for Navy since it concluded its 2024 campaign at the IRA National Championship in West Windsor, N.J. over the weekend of May 31-June 2.
