Lee and Hoang Finish Action at Jackson T. Stephens Cup

Sue Lee Posts Highest Finish by Navy Golfer in Stephens Cup History

NICHOLS HILLS, Okla. – With junior Sue Lee posting the best Navy finish yet at the event and senior captain Bridget Hoang registering her best round of the tournament on the final day, the Navy women's golf team wrapped up play at the 2024 Jackson T. Stephens Cup on Tuesday afternoon in Nichols Hills, Okla.

Playing on the par-70, 6,218-yard Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club, the two-day, three-round stroke play event saw 36 golfers competing, including the lineups of three top-10 squads. Hoang and Lee were two of the six women's golfers who received special invitations to play as individuals in the team-scored event.

Lee started the tournament by having an up-and-down first round of 79, racking up three birdies but also having two double-bogeys, while a second-round performance of 75 landed her in 22nd place at 14-over par 154 when Monday closed. In Tuesday's final round, the junior shot a 76 to close out the Stephens Cup at 20-over par 230 and tying for 26th in the field, which marked the best finish by a Midshipmen in the four-year history of the event.

For Hoang, she opened the event with a round of 82 but fell down the leaderboard after posting a 91 in Monday's second round. Tuesday saw the Mids' senior post a round of 79, ending the tournament in 34th at 42-over par 252.

No. 13-ranked Oregon took home the team title with a score of 27-over par 867, while Wake Forest's Carolina Chacarra claimed the individual medal at 4-under par 206, finishing four strokes ahead of runner-up Kiara Romero from the Ducks.

The Jackson T. Stephens Cup is named in memory of the late Augusta National Chairman Jackson T. Stephens, who attended the Naval Academy where he graduated as a member of the Class of 1947. The field at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is named Jack Stephens Field, whose gift of $10 million in 2003 aided in the renovations of Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, as well as a handful of other projects part of the United States Naval Academy Campaign; Leaders to Serve the Nation.

Tuesday marked the end of the fall season for Navy, with the team returning to action in February at the Sea Best Intercollegiate.
