ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Navy senior linebacker and co-captain
Colin Ramos has been named one of 12 semifinalists for the 2024 Lombardi Award by the Lombardi Award™ Committee.
The 12 players were selected from a preseason watchlist of over 90 players and are the very best from all FBS conferences and independents and represent the key values of character, discipline, and excellence.
Ramos, who is also a semifinalist for the Lott IMPACT Award, is fourth in the nation in tackles averaging 11.5 stops per game. He had a career-high 20 tackles, the most by any player in the FBS this year, in Navy's win over Memphis and had 15 tackles against Notre Dame. He was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy National Player of the Week, the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week and the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Memphis.
Ramos has 290 career tackles and needs just 39 more tackles to pass Clint Bruce (1994-96) and Marc Firlie (1984-86) for fifth on Navy's career-tackles list.
The 2024 season marks the 51st anniversary of the award which has been handed out in Houston, Texas since its inception. This year's award dinner will take place on December 11 and net proceeds from gala sponsorship and table sales are dedicated to supporting cancer research and families and patients battling cancer.
The Lombardi Award™ was established in 1970 in memory of legendary coach Vince Lombardi. It is presented to outstanding linemen who best epitomize his values of leadership, courage, performance and discipline on and off the field. These semifinalists are consistently showing the values of strength, agility, and football acumen in their respective positions.
The Lombardi Award™ represents much more than the distinction involved. It memorializes the perspiration, dedication, and perseverance of these exceptional athletes. As they compete on the gridiron, they inspire future generations of football players and continue the legacy of a coaching icon.
Navy (6-2, 4-1 in the American Athletic Conference) travels to Tampa this weekend to take on USF (4-4,2-2) in a 12-noon contest that will be broadcast on ESPN2 and the Navy Radio Network. The Mids control their own destiny for a berth in the AAC Championship game with 3 games remaining.
