ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team won a pair of close matches Saturday at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.  The Mids (10-2) began the day with a 4-3 win over Long Island (4-2) and ended it with a 5-2 victory over Youngstown State (4-3).

Navy won the doubles point against LIU with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles.  Herick Legaspi won in straight sets at No. 1 singles to make the score 2-0, but the Sharks quickly tied the score at 2-2.  A 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory by Tommy Kim at No. 5 singles placed Navy's third point on the scoreboard, but it soon was a 3-3 score. Nathan Nguyen posted a 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5 win at No. 3 singles in the last match left on the courts.

Navy and Youngstown State played three very close doubles matches as two went into tiebreakers and the third fell one game short of a breaker.  The Penguins won a 7-5 decision at No. 3 singles before Luke Garner and Sasha Panyan combined for a 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 1 doubles.  Aniketh Ayinala and J.J. Etterbeek gave the Mids the 1-0 lead when the pair posted a 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 doubles.

Zach Quattro won in straight sets at No. 5 singles for the Mids, then Garner did the same at the No. 2 flight to make the score 3-0.  Youngstown State quickly cut into the deficit and it was a 3-2 score when Aaron Gu won, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6 singles to give Navy its fourth and match-clinching point.  Etterbeelk followed with a victory at No. 3 singles to account for the final score.

Navy will play host to Fairleigh Dickinson and Villanova on  Feb. 18.
