Women’s Tennis Set for Saturday Twinbill Against Towson and Coppin State

Sitting at 7-2 Overall, Navy Looking to Stay Undefeated at Home This Spring

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's tennis team (7-2) is set to conclude its homestand on Saturday, Feb. 17, with another doubleheader at the Tose Family Tennis Center. A 10 a.m. start will see the Midshipmen face off against Towson (0-0), while the afternoon part of the twin-bill features Navy taking on Coppin State (0-2) at 1 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
The Mids grabbed a pair of home wins last Sunday, sweeping George Mason, 7-0, before battling out a 6-1 victory against George Washington … With its top two pairings winning to secure the doubles points over the Patriots, Navy then saw two-set singles victories from senior captain Stella Ribaudo, juniors Parvathi Shanker and Sylvia Eklund and the freshman trio of Julia Lee, Makaila Cheng and Manci Pal to complete the points sweep … The match with GW opened with the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams from Navy claiming victory to lock up the doubles point, while senior Samantha Johns, juniors Emily Tannenbaum and Kate Lee, sophomore Sia Chaudry and freshman Olivia Fermo all got singles wins to secure the Mids' second win of the day.
 
Tannenbaum Moving up the Record Books
Sporting a 6-0 singles this spring, Tannenbaum ranks fourth in program history with 74 career singles wins, needing four more victories to catch Darien Sears for third in the record book … Tannenbaum also ranks fifth in the Navy record books with 131 career combined victories, sitting one shy of tying Kaylah Hodge for fourth in school history.
 
Puryear's Upcoming Milestones
Head coach Keith Puryear enters Saturday within a trio of coaching milestones … Holding a home record of 198-44 during his Navy tenure, Puryear is two wins away from reaching 200 home wins with the Mids … Puryear is also one victory away from 725 overall wins in his coaching career, spanning 19 seasons at UMBC as both the men's and women's coach and his 16 years at Navy … Additionally, Puryear stands at 496 women's dual wins between his time at UMBC and Navy.
 
Scouting Towson
The Tigers will open their spring season on Saturday when they arrive in Annapolis, kicking off a 20-match regular season … Towson posted a 5-17 record last season, finishing CAA play at 1-9 … Olivia Rothfield returns for the Tigers after pacing the team with eight singles wins last year, as does Sania Suchinsky and her five singles victories.
 
Scouting Coppin State
The Eagles opened the spring season with a 7-0 loss at Lafayette on Feb. 4 before dropping a 7-0 contest to Longwood last Thursday … Coppin finished last season with a 1-18 overall record and a 0-6 mark in the MEAC.
 
Series Histories
Navy is 12-0 in the all-time series with Towson, with 10 of those wins coming in Annapolis … Last season's meeting between the Mids and Tigers ended in a 7-0 Navy win on Feb. 4, 2023 … The Mids are also undefeated against Coppin State, going 4-0 in four all-time meetings, with the last match between the schools being a 7-0 Navy victory on Feb. 9, 2013.

Navy heads to Morgantown, W.Va., on Feb. 24 for a 10 a.m. match with West Virginia, before returning home to Annapolis the next day, Feb. 25, for a 10 a.m. contest against Dartmouth.
