Men’s Tennis Wins Pair of Matches to Improve to 8-0

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team ran its record to 8-0 on the season with a pair of victories over Howard (0-2) and Saint Joseph's (1-1), Saturday at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.  The Mids posted a 7-0 victory over Howard and a 4-1 win over Saint Joseph's.

Navy 7, Howard 0
The teams played three close doubles matches, with Navy winning two of them to earn the point.  Luke Garner and Sasha Panyan combined for a 6-3 win over Justin Cadeau and Michael Major at No. 1 doubles.  Also winning for Navy was the No. 2 team of Aniketh Aylnala and J.J. Etterbeek by the score of 6-2 over Marcel Dawson and Kendrick Lash.  Howard's No. 3 team of Daniel Dunac and Gabe Knowles defeated Aaron Gu and Zach Quattro in a tiebreaker (8-6).

Navy won each of the six singles matches in straight sets.

Navy 4, Saint Joseph's 1
The Mids recorded victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to take the early 1-0 advantage.  Tommy Kim and Jake Young combined for a 6-1 win over Justus Agbo and John Butler at the No. 2 flight, with Matthew McNair and Nicholas Nguyen defeating Jack Campbell and Mark Rubin, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles.

Herrick Leaspi won a 6-2, 6-1 match over Ernesto Ruy at No. 1 singles to make the score 2-0.  After Agbo defeated Young, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, Gradyon Buckingham recorded a 7-5, 6-2 win over Butler at the No. 6 flight to give the Mids a 3-1 lead.  The match ended when Kim posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Campbell at No. 5 singles.
