ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coming off its first Patriot League series of the campaign, the Navy baseball team (10-10) concludes a six-game road trip on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Saint Joseph's (8-9) for a 3 p.m. non-conference matchup at Smithson Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
 
Streaming on ESPN+, Wednesday's contest will be the first all-time meeting between the Midshipmen and Hawks on the diamond.
 
Grenn Named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week
Coming off a career-long 7.2 shutout innings, sophomore Tyler Grenn was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday … Making his fourth start of the season on Friday at Bucknell, Grenn tossed 7.2 innings and allowed just two hits and one hit-by-pitch, as the right-hander registered four strikeouts and had a pair of stretches where he retired 10-straight batters … Grenn's 7.2 innings were the most for a Navy starter since Nate Mitchell logged eight frames at Holy Cross on April 2, 2023, while the last Navy pitcher to throw 7.2-or-more shutout innings was Noah Song against Lafayette on May 11, 2019 … The award marks the first time Grenn has earned weekly honors from the league, while it is the second-straight week a Navy player has earned Patriot League Pitcher-of-the-Week distinction following junior Landon Kruer's accolades last Tuesday.
 
"We Got Ice"
The Mids have been one of the nation's best teams at getting on base via hit-by-pitch, as Navy's 56 times being hit by a pitch lead the Patriot League and rank third in the NCAA entering the week … Just four plunkings behind national leader Coastal Carolina, the Mids have a pair of players who are in the top-10 nationally in getting beaned … Sitting fourth in the nation with 12 hit-by-pitches is sophomore Mac McCommons, while fellow sophomore Brock Murtha has the 10th-most in the country at 10 hit-by-pitches … McCommons and Murtha rank first and second in the Patriot League, respectively.
 
Navy Tidbits
Through Navy's eight road games, freshman Evan Brown is batting .467 with six runs scored and seven RBI, while senior Zane Raba has posted a .379 average in away games while racking up four doubles and four stolen bases … In the Mids' five games last week, Victor Izquierdo batted a team-best .357 to go along with five runs scored and three RBI … The month of March has been kind to Murtha, with the sophomore tallying a .381 average and .518 on-base percentage while knocking four extra-base hits, scoring 11 times, driving in 10 runs and swiping seven bases … Senior righty Nolan Jorgenson has also been effective in the month of March, registering a 1.86 ERA over 9.2 innings and four appearances while striking out 10 batters.

Navy was able to split its Patriot League-opening series at Bucknell on the back of strong pitching and timely hitting … Friday's opener saw Grenn and Kruer combine for the Mids' first shutout since 2022 in a 2-0 victory, as Grenn logged 7.2 innings of two-hit ball before Kruer picked up his program-record-matching 17th career save … Saturday's first game featured the first complete game in the career of senior Matthew Shirah and three-hit day for senior Eduardo Diaz, but the Bison upended the Mids, 5-2 … In the nightcap on Saturday, freshman Brady Bendik held Bucknell scoreless for the first six innings while fellow rookie Andrew Manning blasted a three-run home run to help Navy win, 8-2 … Sunday's finale ended in an 8-2 Bucknell win after the Bison scored seven runs in the first inning.
 
Scouting Saint Joseph's
The Hawks are winners in four of their last five contests, taking the second and third games of a weekend series with Monmouth after dropping the series opener in extra innings … The Saint Joseph's pitching staff has struck opponents at a clip of 10.6 per nine innings, ranking first in the Atlantic 10 and 28th in the nation … Ryan Weingartner has been the Hawks' top hitter this season, posting a .378 average and .784 slugging percentage while amassing 22 RBI and 16 extra-base hits … Owen Petrich (.333) and Conlan Wall are also batting above .300, with Wall leading the team with 19 runs scored, 21 walks and six stolen bases … Will McCausland (4.56 ERA) leads the Hawks with 25.2 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts, while Matt McShane has a 5.65 ERA over a team-high eight appearances and logging 14.1 innings.
