DANBURY, Conn. - The ECAC announced its weekly award winners on Tuesday and for the eighth time this season, the Navy men's gymnastics was at the forefront of the press release as
Matthew Petros was selected as the ECAC Co-Gymnast of the Week. The sophomore was honored of his efforts in Navy's regular season-ending road meet at William & Mary on Saturday. Petros shared the top honor with Springfield's Sam Kaplan, who posted an 80.45 score in the all-around for the Pride.
Petros was a standout on four events for the Mids with three event wins and a fourth runner-up placement. The Broadview Heights, Ohio native's day started with a 13.2 on the pommel horse to rank second in the field before sweeping the final three events of the meet. In quick succession, Petros tied his career-best on the vault with a 14.6 before coming within 0.05 points of his career-high on the parallel bars (14.0) and eventually winning the high bar by 0.25 points with a 13.4 score. Behind his cumulative total of 55.2 points, Petros and the Mids scored a season-high 396.75 points in their win over William & Mary.
This is Petros' sixth career ECAC weekly award and second of the 2024 season as he was earlier named the Gymnast of the Week on February 6. As a program, this is Navy's eighth ECAC weekly award this year ...

Postseason action for the Mids is set to begin this Friday with the team portion of the 2024 USAG Collegiate Championship. The two-day event that is hosted by Air Force will conclude on Saturday with the event finals.
