ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The doubles point played a vital role in a pair of 4-3 decisions recorded by the Navy men's tennis team on Sunday.  The Mids (24-13, 3-2) won the doubles point in a victory over Georgetown (13-6) in Annapolis and lost it in a loss at Holy Cross (2-9, 2-4) in Marlborough, Mass.

Navy 4, Georgetown 3
Navy began the morning by winning each of the three doubles matches.  Aniketh Ayinala and J.J. Etterbeek were the first team to finish as the Mids won a 6-1 match over Jake Fellows and Arthur O'Sullivan at the No. 2 flight.  The point was secured when the No. 3 tandem of Nicholas Nguyen and Jake Young defeated Burke Pablo and Adhvyte by the score of 6-2.  Completing the sweep was a 6-4 win at No. 1 by Herrick Legaspi and Sasha Panyan over Kieran Foster and Zamaan Moledina.

Nguyen then defeated Pablo, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, at No. 6 singles to make the score 2-0.  The Hoyas won the next two matches to even play at 2-2.  Morey defeated Young, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5 singles and Moledina defeated Etterbeek, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 3 flight.  Legaspi gave the Mids a 3-2 lead when he defeated O'Sullivan, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.

Panyan won the first set of his No. 1 singles match against Fellows by the score of 7-5.  Fellows took a 4-1 lead in the second set only to see Panyan tie the frame at 4-4.  The players exchanged the next four games to force a tiebreaker.  Fellows held 5-4 and 6-5 leads in the breaker only to see Panyan register the ensuing three points to win, 8-6, and give the Mids their match-clinching fourth team point.

In the remaining match, Foster defeated Ayinala, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.

Holy Cross 4, Navy 3
The Crusaders would win two of the three doubles matches to claim the available point.

Navy won the first match to finish, a 6-3 win at the No. 3 flight by Aaron Gu and Zach Quattro over Camilo Illanes and Connor Nelson.  Holy Cross won 6-4 decisions at the remaining two flights.  In order of finish, William Kelleher and Declan O'Flynn defeated Tommy Kim and Steve Nguyen at No. 2 doubles and Jeremy Clark and Henry Winiecki beat Luke Garner and Jason Kim at the No. 1 flight.

Garner bounced back to win a 6-0, 6-1 match at No. 1 singles over Kelleher.  Nguyen made the score 2-1 in favor of the Mids when he defeated Nelson, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.  O'Flynn tied the score when he posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Jason Kim at No. 3 singles.

Tommy Kim returned the lead to the Mids with his 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) win over Teddy Callery at the No. 4 flight.  Illanes then defeated Quattro, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), at No. 5 singles to tie the score at 3-3.  The last match saw Alessandro Bizzarri defeat Gu, 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, at No. 6 singles.

Navy will play two matches on Sunday, April 14 as the Mids will play host to Bucknell (1 p.m.) and play at Hampton (11 a.m.).
