ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coming off a career-long eight innings in the Midshipmen's weekend-opening victory, Navy sophomore
Tyler Grenn was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
This marks Grenn's second time winning the award this season, previously taking home weekly honors on March 19 after throwing 7.2 shutout innings in Navy's league opener at Bucknell.
The right-hander was dominant once again for Navy, tallying his fourth quality start of the season in the Mids' 2-1 extra-inning win at Lehigh on Saturday. Allowing just one run on four hits, Grenn did not surrender a walk while striking out four batters and worked six-or-more innings for the fifth-straight start. Giving up a first-inning run, Grenn then kept Lehigh scoreless for the next seven frames, facing just three batters over the minimum through his outing and allowing just one other runner to reach third base the remainder of his time on the mound.
Grenn's eight innings were the longest start by a Navy pitcher since
Nate Mitchell's eight frames at Holy Cross on April 2, 2023.
For the season, Grenn holds a 2.49 ERA over eight appearances, including seven starts, and has recorded 21 strikeouts across a league-leading 43.1 innings.
Navy is back in action on Wednesday evening, hosting Maryland Eastern Shore at 5 p.m.
