CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Navy baseball team (25-20) was shut out, 10-0, in seven innings by No. 11 Virginia (35-12) on Wednesday night at Davenport Field at Disharoon Park.

Highlighted by junior
Owen Beisty making his return to the mound for the first time in 437 days following an arm injury, the Midshipmen threatened several times over the first few innings, but the Cavaliers' top-5 offense erupted for 13 hits, including a pair of home runs.
Despite Navy getting a runner into scoring position in the first inning, it was the Cavaliers who struck first when Henry Ford's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first plated Griff O'Ferrall for the opening run of the game, while Henry Godbout's two-run shot in the second inning moved the edge to 3-0.
Â
Virginia's top starter, Evan Blanco, then pitched his way out of trouble again in the third after seniors
Hudson Lehnertz and
Anthony Fiallo led off the inning with hits to put runners on the corners, and his offense added on four more runs in the home half of the frame courtesy of a two-run chopping double from Anthony Stephan, a Godbout RBI double and Eric Becker's RBI single.
Â
A Ford single and Harrison Didawick's double in the fourth both scored a run each as well, swelling the lead to 9-0, but freshman
Ryan Bibb pitched a scoreless frame in the fifth and fellow rookie
Timmy Virtudes did the same in the sixth. Virginia capped off the run-rule victory when Stephan blasted a solo shot with one down in the seventh, earning the Cavaliers their ninth-straight win over Navy.
Â
Beisty went one-plus inning in his season debut, while freshman lefty
Evan Foster and Bibb both worked two frames before Virtudes pitched the final 1.1 innings. For Virginia, Blanco lasted five innings and struck out five to earn the win, while Matt Augustin tossed two perfect frames in relief.
