A Dozen Mids Receive ITA Academic Honors

Men’s Tennis Earns All-Academic Team Honors for Sixth-Straight Season

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) handed out National Scholar-Athlete recognition to 12 members of the Navy tennis programs based upon their academic performance during the 2023-24 school year, it was announced this week. Additionally, the Navy men's team as a whole earned All-Academic Team honors from the ITA for their efforts in the classroom.
 
Those who earned ITA National Scholar-Athlete honors posted a grade-point average of at least 3.50 for the entire academic year, while ITA All-Academic Team recognition was given to those programs which totaled a team GPA of at least 3.20 for the full academic calendar.
 
Members of the Navy men's team to receive this year's accolade were recent graduates Eric Liu (Canton, Mich.), Nicholas Nguyen (McLean, Va.) and Sasha Panyan (Lutherville, Md.), rising senior Luke Garner (Arnold, Md.), rising juniors Aniketh Ayinala (Charlotte, N.C.) and Matthew McNair (Annapolis, Md.) and rising sophomores Aaron Gu (West Lafayette, Ind.), Tommy Kim (Santa Clara, Calif.) and Zach Quattro (Austin, Texas).
 
Liu and Nguyen earned the distinction for a fourth time, Panyan garnered his third award, McNair received the honor for a second time and Garner, Ayinala, Gu, Kim and Quattro each collected the accolade for the first time.
 
The No. 20 singles player in the year-end Atlantic Region ranking, Panyan was also named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second-straight season in addition to earning first-team all-league distinction for a second time, while he and Garner comprised the Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year for the second year in a row.
 
For the women's team, recent graduate Stella Ribaudo (Chicago, Ill.), rising senior Emily Tannenbaum (Commack, N.Y.) and rising sophomore Anna Jordaan (Denver, Colo.) garnered individual honors from the ITA.
 
Ribaudo received ITA Scholar-Athlete distinction for the third-straight season, while Tannenbaum and Jordaan earned it for the first time.
 
Ribaudo was also the Atlantic Region's winner of the ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award, while Tannenbaum notched All-Patriot League First Team laurels for the third consecutive year and finished as the No. 12 singles player in the ITA's year-end regional rankings.
 
The Navy men's program earned the All-Academic Team honor for the sixth-straight year and the eighth time in the last nine seasons.
