Junior Fullback Alex Tecza Named to the Watch List for the 2024 Doak Walker Award

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Junior fullback Alex Tecza has been named to the 2024 Doak Walker Award Watch List it was announced today by The PwC SMU Athletic Forum.  The Forum annually presents the award to the nation's most outstanding college running back.

Tecza is one of seven players from the American Athletic Conference on the list. 

A starter in 8 of Navy's 12 contests last fall, Tecza garnered Honorable Mention All-AAC honors as he led Navy in rushing, averaging 63.2 yards per game and 6.0 yards per carry, which ranked 22nd nationally. Tecza also caught 16 passes for 97 yards on the year and had 7 rushing touchdowns.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November.

The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2024 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2024.

The award is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. Each Tuesday of this season, The PwC SMU Athletic Forum will once again announce a Doak Walker National Running Back of the week.

 

The Doak Walker Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association. Founded in 1997, the NCFAA includes college football's most prestigious awards and its 24 awards have honored more than 900 recipients dating back to 1935. This season, 12 NCFAA awards will honor national players of the week each Tuesday.

Sixteen NCFAA members are unveiling preseason watch lists over a two-week period as the association spearheads a coordinated effort to promote each award's preseason candidates. Following is the remaining 2024 preseason watch list calendar:

Wed., Aug. 7: Biletnikoff Award
Thu., Aug. 8: Davey O'Brien Award
Fri., Aug. 9: Mackey Award/Rimington Trophy
Mon., Aug. 12: Bednarik Award
Tue., Aug. 13: Butkus Award
