GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – The Navy women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the season on Wednesday, finishing 15th in a loaded field at the three-day Folds of Honor Collegiate, held at the par-72 American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich.
Participating in the Folds of Honor Collegiate's first-ever women's tournament, the Midshipmen shot a 105-over par 969 across three rounds while in a nationally-televised field that included five ranked teams and the No. 1 amateur women's golfer in the world. After posting a 325 in Monday's opening round and a 332 during Tuesday's action, Navy recovered for Wednesday's final round to score its best round of 312.
The 17th-ranked Arizona Wildcats claimed the team title with a 4-over par 868, while No. 14-ranked Florida State was the runner up at 7-over par 871 and Ohio State came in third place at 16-over par 880. Reigning All-American Mirabel Ting of Florida State had a late surge to take individual medalist honors at 6-under par 210, beating out Arizona's Carolina Melgrati (4-under par 212), while North Carolina's Megan Streicher finished in a tie for third place at 3-under par 213 with FSU's Lottie Woad, currently the top-ranked amateur golfer in the world.
Navy's top finisher was sophomore
Emma Tang, who tied for 53rd on the leaderboard after posting an even-par round on Wednesday to finish 18-over par 234 (78-84-72).
Battling back after a rough Monday, junior
Sue Lee was able to climb to 69th place with a tournament score of 29-over par 245 (86-78-81), while freshman
Vivian Cressman closed her collegiate debut by scoring a 30-over par 246 (80-88-78) to take 70th behind Lee.
Rounding out the Navy lineup were sophomore
Keira Howard, who placed 74th at 34-over par 250 (82-87-81), and senior captain
Bridget Hoang, who finished in 75th with a 37-over par 253 (85-83-85).
The Mids continue their fall season on Sept. 28-29 with the Navy Fall Invitational.
