Opening Kick
• Navy and Temple will meet on the gridiron for the 19th time when the two square off on CBS Sports Network on Saturday afternoon (3:30 PM) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. Saturday's contest is presented by BuildSubmarines.com(.)
• Navy and Temple have developed a closely-contested rivalry over the years with the all-time series tied at 9 wins apiece. Seven of the last 10 games have been decided by one score. Temple won last year's game 32-18 in Philadelphia which essentially cost the Mids a bowl game. Navy won the previous 3 contests (27-20 in OT in 2022 in Annapolis, 38-14 in 2021 in Philadelphia and 31-29 in 2020 in Annapolis). The teams are 3-3 in the last 6 games played in Annapolis and 5 of those 6 games were decided by one score.
• Saturday is the second of three-consecutive home games for the Mids. It's the first time Navy has opened the season playing three-straight home games since 1988 when the Mids played James Madison, Delaware and Temple to start the year.
• Navy won its first season opener since 2019 last Saturday when the Mids defeated Bucknell 49-21. The 2019 Navy team went on to win a school-record tying 11 games, won the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy and defeated Kansas State in the Liberty Bowl.
• Navy has gone to a bowl game in 10 of the last 11 years it has won the season opener.
• A win over Temple would give Navy a 2-0 start for the first time since 2019, when the Mids defeated Holy Cross and East Carolina to open the season. Navy has started 2-0 just 9 times in the last 30 years.
• Former Navy head football coach Paul Johnson will be honored at a first quarter timeout for winning the Dodd Trophy as the National Coach of the Year 20 years ago this year. Johnson was awarded The Dodd Trophy in 2004 after leading the Midshipmen to the program's first 10-win season since 1905. Johnson and Navy secured their second-consecutive Commander-in-Chief's Trophy and finished the season ranked No. 24 in the final Associated Press poll following an Emerald Bowl victory over New Mexico.
• Navy owns a 739-600-57 record in 144 years of football. The 739 wins are the 25th most in the FBS.
• Navy's roster has players on it from 28 different states.
• Navy's 49 points in the opener against Bucknell are the most by a Navy team since hanging 53 on Tulsa on Oct. 8, 2022.
