JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A strong performance from sophomore
Emma Tang led the way, as the Navy women's golf team finished in 10th place in a competitive field Tuesday afternoon at the Sea Best Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Fla.
Playing at the par-72, 6,084-yard San Jose Country Club, the Midshipmen opened Monday morning with a round of 298 before shooting the team's best round of the tournament at 293 to close the first day in a tie for 10th in the 15-team field. Finishing the event with a 308 in Tuesday's final round, Navy wound up in a tie for 10th place for the second-straight day, matching Florida Southern at 35-over par 899.
Tang paced the Mids by tying for 13th on the player leaderboard, posting rounds of 72 and 69 on Monday before wrapping up with a 76 in Tuesday's action, closing at 1-over par 217.
Finishing in a three-way tie for 43rd were junior
Sue Lee and sophomore
Keira Howard at 10-over par 226. Lee put together rounds of 77 and 71 in Monday's two rounds before shooting a 78 on Tuesday, while Howard posted rounds of 73, 77 and 76 for the tournament.
Senior captain
Bridget Hoang came in tied for 53rd, using rounds of 76, 76 and 78 to score a 14-over par 230 for the two-day stay. Rounding out the Navy lineup was freshman
Megan Kirkpatrick at 26-over par 242 (82-79-81), tying for 72nd, while fellow freshman
Vivian Cressman competed as an individual, placing 76th at 30-over par 246 (88-79-79).
Florida claimed the tournament title with a 7-under par 857 team performance, while FGCU's Lousiane Gauthier and South Alabama's Mercedes Aldana finished tied atop the player leaderboard at 5-under par 211.
Navy will resume its spring season on March 14-16 at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz.
