ANNAPOLIS, Md. --
Nathan Nguyen's three victories led the way for the Navy men's tennis team at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Region Championship held this weekend at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
Nguyen received a bye into the second round of the singles qualifying draw where he posted a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win over William & Mary's Dylan Chou to advance to the main draw of 64 players. Â Nguyen fell in the first round, 6-4, 6-2, to Nicolas Iamtosca from Virginia Tech, but then tallied a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Harrison Lee in a consolation match. Â Additionally, he and
Charlie Spencer teamed for an 8-7 (7-6) win over Liberty's Chase Robinson and Ben Sparks in the first round of doubles. Â The pair would fall, 8-3, to Old Dominion's Adam Majchrzak and Thomas Nelson in the round of 32.

Aniketh Ayinala each won a match to advance out of the qualifying draw into the main draw where they joined
Herrick Legaspi who was automatically placed into the main bracket. Â Legaspi won a 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-1 match against Aurelien Schmitt from James Madison in the first round. Â In doubles, Ayinala and
J.J. Etterbeek combined for an 8-6 victory over William & Mary's Austin Cohen and Theo Nilsson in the first round.
Nguyen also earned a pair of doubles wins Sunday on the final day of the Navy Gold Invite in Annapolis. Â He first teamed with
Tommy Kim for a 7-5 victory over Loyola's Noah Castillo and Petter Hagen, then partnered with
Lachlan Buckingham for a 6-1 victory over the Howard team of Alexander Monagan and Shawn Mitchell Yon.
Posting 2-0 records in singles during the event were Etterbeek and Kim. Â Etterbeek held a 4-3 first-set lead over Delaware's Euan Mackenzie when Mackenzie was forced to retire from the match. Â Etterbeek later defeated Morgan State's Roman Filima, 6-2, 6-0. Â Kim would win a pair of close straight-set matches, first a 7-5, 7-5 win over Delaware's Pere Prat and then a 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 victory over Prat's teammate James Sclater.
The Mids also made the short drive to the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va., for the Commander-in-Chief's Tennis Challenge against Army, Air Force and Georgetown. Â
George Cutone earned singles victories against each of his three opponents and also added a doubles victory alongside
Ethan Garcia. Cutone first defeated Jack Brown from Air Force by the score of 6-4, 6-4. Â He followed that victory with a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-4) win over Army's Jackson Armistead. Â He closed the weekend by winning a 6-4, 6-4 singles decision over Georgetown's Jacob Mann and, alongside Garcia, a 6-1 doubles victory over Sahil Morey and Dean Rostom.
Navy will take a week off from competition before playing in the ITA Patriot League Master's Qualifier Oct. 24-26 at Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa.
