BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Navy's Ava Toppin was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row and teammate Caroline Buffum earned the rookie-of-the-week accolade for volleyball, the league office announced today.

The two players received their respective awards for their efforts during Navy's four-set victory over Bucknell Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa.

Toppin tallied three solo blocks and five block assists against the Bison.  Her eight total blocks came exactly one week after she totaled 11 blocks during a five-set victory over Bucknell in Annapolis.  The senior team captain also added 11 kills without committing an error on 22 attempts in nSaturday's victory.

Buffum did not take to the court during the opening set 25-23 loss by the Mids.  She tied a career high with 16 kills and set a career best with a .560 hitting percentage despite only playing in sets two through four.

Navy returns home for matches Friday against Lafayette (7 p.m.) and Saturday against Lehigh (7:30 p.m.) in the Wesley A. Brown Field House.
