BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Patriot League Masters Qualifier came to a close Saturday for Navy's
J.J. Etterbeek and
Herrick Legaspi. Legaspi lost in the singles semifinals, Etterbeek lost in the quarterfinals and the pair lost in the semifinals as a doubles team at the tournament being hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa.
Legaspi was seeded second in singles and received a first round bye. He then defeated Lafayette's Darrin Lerner, 6-4, 6-1, in the round of 16 and Lehigh's Sean Jaeger, 6-2, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. Bucknell's Adamantios Stavrakas, who was the No. 3 seed in the event, outlasted Legaspi, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, in the semifinal round.
Etterbeek also received a bye into the round of 16 where he posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Matias Feoli of Army. Etterbeek then dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to top-seeded Amar Tahorovic, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. Tahorovic, who is ranked 43rd nationally, also won his next match to advance to Sunday's final against teammate Stavrakas.
Etterbeek and Legaspi were seeded second in the doubled draw. The pair won an 8-7 (7-2) match in the quarterfinals against the Holy Cross pair of Matthew Carlson and Patrick Ling. The Mids then fell, 8-3, to the Boston U. team of Jakob Esterowitz and Payton Jim On in the semifinals.
Navy will close its fall slate by playing host to the Navy Invite Nov. 7-9.
