Navy Quarterback Blake Horvath Named to the Davey O’Brien QB Class; Navy Fans Can Help Horvath Win the Award

10/30/2025 3:59:00 PM

Fort Worth, Texas – Navy senior quarterback Blake Horvath has been named to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2025, announced Thursday by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.

Horvath is one of three dozen quarterbacks who are now officially in contention for the 2025 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. The group includes 17 seniors, 11 juniors, five sophomores and three freshmen. Fourteen of the players, including Horvath, were featured on this year's Davey O'Brien Award Preseason Watch List.

For the fifth-straight year, fan voting on social media will earn players bonus selection committee votes during the semifinalist, finalist and winner voting rounds. First-round fan voting begins immediately. To vote, fans can simply "like" the official graphic from the @daveyobrien social media accounts that highlights their favorite quarterback.

The list of semifinalists from this year's QB Class will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The Foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later on Tuesday, Nov. 25, and the winner of the 2025 Davey O'Brien Award will be unveiled live on ESPN on Friday, Dec. 12, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.

The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The 49th Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner honoring the winner will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Horvath has rushed for 814 yards and 12 touchdowns on 119 carries, while completing 60 of his 93 pass attempts for 1,063 yards and seven touchdowns for the Midshipmen.

Last week, Horvath was named a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, also known as the Academic Heisman. He carries a 3.69 grade point average in Operations Research.  As a junior, he earned a 4.0 in both semesters.

Horvath's 169.9 career pass efficiency rating is the highest of any quarterback in Service Academy history with 150 or more attempts. Dating back to 1956, he is 1 of just 20 quarterbacks in the FBS to have a career passing efficiency of 169.0 or better with 225 or more passing attempts. Horvath is 18th on that list. Florida's Tim Tebow (170.8) is 17th and USC's Caleb Williams (169.3) is 19th. Both Williams and Tebow won the Heisman Trophy.

In total, eight of the 20 players on the list won the Heisman Trophy (#4 Kyler Murray, #7 Cam Newton, #8 Sam Bradford, #9 Baker Mayfield, #13 Joe Burrow, #16 Marcus Mariota, Tebow and Williams).

Horvath's 469 yards of total offense (130 yds rush, 339 yds pass) in Navy's win against Air Force this year broke the school record. The previous record was 428 yards set by Will Worth in a loss at USF in 2016. Horvath is the first quarterback in the FBS to throw for 330 yards or more with three or more touchdowns and rush for 130 or more yards with one or more touchdowns in a game since LSU's Jayden Daniels, who also won the Heisman, against Florida in 2023.

Horvath has rushed for over 100 yards in five-straight games, making him the first Navy player to do that since Malcolm Perry had 10-consecutive 100-yard rushing games in 2019.

Horvath's 12 rushing touchdowns are tied for the second most in the FBS among all players and tied with Haynes King of Georgia Tech as the most by a quarterback. He is averaging 10.3 points per game, which is the fourth most in the FBS.

Horvath is averaging 116.3 rushing yards per game this year, which ranks sixth nationally and is the most by a quarterback.

Horvath is averaging 8.9 yards of total offense per play this year, which would be a school record. The record is 8.5, set by Malcolm Perry in 2017.

Horvath is averaging 17.7 yards per completion in 2025, the fourth-best average in school history. It would lead the FBS if he had enough attempts to qualify.

Navy (7-0, 5-0 in the American), off to a 7-0 start for the first time since 1978, will try and move to 8-0 for the first time since 1926 when they travel to Denton, Texas to take on the Mean Green of North Texas (7-1, 3-1) in a game that will kick at 12 noon ET, 11:00 AM CT on ESPN2 and the Navy Radio Network.

A win for Navy, ranked No. 25 in the AFCA Coaches Poll, would be a school record 11th-straight win dating back to last year.
