ANNAPOLIS, Md.--The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the names of 20 semifinalists for its 2025 Player of the Year award, the fourth-oldest college football award in the nation.
The semifinalist list includes 11 quarterbacks, six defensive players, two running backs and one wide receiver.
Navy senior quarterback
Blake Horvath is among the 11 quarterbacks. Horvath is also a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, also known as the Academic Heisman.
Horvath has had a sensational season, leading Navy to a 7-2 record (7-1 when he starts) and a 5-1 mark in the American, good enough for a first-place tie in the loss column.
Horvath has rushed for 926 yards and 13 touchdowns, while throwing for 1,143 yards and seven touchdowns.
He has rushed for over 100 yards in six-straight games, making him the first Navy player to accomplish that feat since Malcolm Perry had 10-consecutive 100-yard rushing games in 2019.
Horvath's 13 rushing touchdowns are tied for the third most in the FBS. He is ninth in the country in scoring, averaging 9.8 points per game.
Horvath is averaging 115.8 rushing yards per game this year, which ranks fourth nationally and first among quarterbacks.
Horvath is averaging 8.4 yards of total offense per play this year, which is the second best in school history. The record is 8.5 set by Malcolm Perry in 2017.
He is averaging 16.8 yards per completion in 2025, the fourth-best average in school history.
Horvath's 165.5 pass efficiency this year is the fourth best in school history.
Former Colorado (and current Jacksonville Jaguar) wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter was the 2024 Walter Camp Player of Year.
The Walter Camp Player of the Year will be voted on by the 136 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors later this month. Three finalists will be announced later this month and the 59th recipient of the Walter Camp Player of Year award along with the 136

Considered the "Father of American Football," Walter Camp introduced the play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side in 1880. Nine years later, Mr. Camp, then the Yale University head coach, selected the first-ever college football All-America team. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
