ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The Naval Academy Athletic Association was informed on Wednesday night by the Heisman Trophy Trust that senior quarterback Blake Horvath is a potential Heisman Trophy Finalist.
For the 91st consecutive year, the Heisman Trophy Trust is honored to bestow the prestigious Heisman Memorial Trophy to the most outstanding college football player in the United States, the letter stated. As the 2025 college football season enters its final weeks, Blake Horvath has emerged as one of the sport's most dynamic players this year. His remarkable achievements on the field have captured national headlines and elevated his profile among fans and media alike. Through consistent, high-impact performances, Blake has been elevated into the conversation as a potential Heisman Trophy Finalist.
The 2025 Heisman Memorial Trophy Finalists will be announced on Monday, December 8, during ESPN's Monday Night Countdown show, as well as on the Heisman website and social channels.
The Heisman Trophy winner will be announced Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7 PM during a nationally-televised ceremony on ABC held in the Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Horvath, who is also a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, also known as the Academic Heisman, and a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award and the Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Year, is 8-1 as a starter this year and 18-4 the last two years.
He has rushed for 986 yards (109.6 yards per game, fifth nationally, most by a quarterback) and 13 touchdowns (tied for the sixth most in the FBS), while throwing for 1,290 yards and eight touchdowns on the year.
Horvath needs just 14 yards rushing to become the first quarterback in school history to rush and throw for 1,000 yards or more in back-to-back seasons. Navy great Keenan Reynolds, who finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy balloting in 2015, also did it twice (2013 and 2015) but didn't do it in back-to-back seasons. Ricky Dobbs came up 33 rushing yards short in 2010 of doing it in back-to-back seasons.
Horvath's 164.5 career pass efficiency rating is the highest of any quarterback in Service Academy history with 150 or more attempts. Dating back to 1956, he is 1 of just 33 quarterbacks in the FBS to have a career passing efficiency of 164.0 or better with 250 or more passing attempts. Horvath is 29th on that list.
The Mids need two more wins to reach 10 for the season and mark the first time in school history that Navy has back-to-back 10-win seasons. The Mids need three more wins to tie the school record for wins in a season (11 in 2019 and 2015).
Navy plays at Memphis on Thanksgiving night in a nationally televised contest on ESPN at 7:30 PM (ET), 6:30 PM (CT). The Mids enter this weekend in a four-way tie for first in the loss column with North Texas, Tulane and ECU. Thursday marks Navy's first game on Thanksgiving since Nov. 24, 1898 when the Mids knocked off VMI 21-5 in Annapolis.
