BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its cross country academic honors and Navy's
Justin Mumford was selected as the Men's Cross Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In addition to Mumford's top honor,
Logan Flament joined Mumford on the seven-member Patriot League All-Academic Team.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
It is 11th time in program history that Navy has had the Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Mids have claimed the honor four of four of the last five years.
Mumford is the ninth different Midshipmen to earn the honor, joining John Kress (2007), Bill Prom (2008), Chris Galvin (2012), Sam Peckham (2014, '15), Ryan Speir (2016), Kevin Murray (2017), Brett Brady (2021, '22), and Sam Keeny (2023) with the conference's top academic honor.
Mumford, who is an aerospace engineering major with a 3.93 GPA, finished first overall at the Patriot League Championship to collect Patriot League Men's Outstanding Performer of the Meet, marking the third consecutive season the Mids claimed the individual title (
Murphy Smith won in 2023 and 2024). The senior took individual medalist honors with a time of 23:59.0 to lead a team of five Mids in the top 10. In addition to being named Performer of the Meet, Mumford was named First Team All-Patriot League for the second time in his career (2024, '25). The All-Academic selection marks the second consecutive season that Mumford has been named to the academic team, while the senior was also named CSC Academic All-District and USTFCCCA All-Academic last year.
With his section as Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Mumford is now in the running for the Patriot League's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the overall Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
Flament earned Patriot League All-Academic honors for the first time in his career. The electrical engineering major with a 3.99 GPA posted a top 10 finish at the Patriot League Championship with an 8K time of 24:38.4 to finish ninth overall and earn Second Team All-Patriot League distinction. Flament ranks 13th in overall order of merit among the Class of 2027, while coming in 17th in academic order of merit and 29th in military order of merit.
Both Navy teams will continue postseason action Friday, Nov. 14 with the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship in Bethlehem, Pa. on the campus of Lehigh. The Mids will be racing for a spot in the 2025 NCAA Championship beginning at 12:00 p.m. when the women get the day going; the men will start one hour later at 1:00 p.m.
