ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The second-ranked Navy men's rugby team (10-1) returns to the pitch this Saturday to open its spring season against fourth-ranked California (7-0). The top-five battle is schedule to begin at 12 noon at the Prusmack Rugby Center in Annapolis.

• There is no admission charge for rugby matches at the Prusmack Rugby Center

• Spectator parking is available in the lots on the north side of the Brigade Sports Complex (64 Greenbury Point Road, Annapolis, MD 21402). Overflow parking is available in the open space on the west side of the facility.
• Alcohol consumption is prohibited at the Prusmack Rugby Center and surrounding parking areas.
Looking Back at the Fall Season
- The Mids won their third-straight Rugby East Conference Championship after finishing the fall season 10-1 overall and 6-1 in league play.
- Navy opened the season against Mount St. Mary's, scoring five tries to defeat the Mountaineers, 36-8.
- After a 62-14 victory over Maryland, the Mids began Rugby East play with a 41-23 victory over St. Bonaventure.
- Navy overcame a 17-10 halftime deficit to shut out Penn State in the second half and win its 18th-consecutive conference match, 35-10.
- The Mids secured their second-straight Star with a 32-5 victory over Army in the annual Army-Navy Star Match, which was part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. Junior Roanin Krieger recorded his 400th-career point on a penalty kick to give Navy an early 3-0 lead. Krieger was responsible for 12 of Navy's 32 points with three conversion kicks and a pair of penalty kicks.
- The Midshipmen took a trip out West for their second service academy showdown, this time against Air Force. Navy dominated the match, scoring a season-high 79 points to retain the Lt. Col. Kevin Shea Memorial Rugby Cup.
- The Mids took care of Walsh on the road, 40-11.
- Navy suffered its first Rugby East loss in program history with a 23-20 loss to Life. The Mids rallied back from 17-0 deficit to tie the match 20-20 before the Running Eagles converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute for the walk-off victory.
- Navy bounced back with a pair of road victories over Kutztown (60-17) and Queens (49-19) to claim its third-consecutive Rugby East title.
- The Mids closed out the regular season with a 43-28 victory against BYU. The Cougars took a 14-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the match before Navy scored 33-straight points.
- A league-leading eight Midshipmen were named to the All-Rugby East Team last fall. Andrew Baublitz, Krieger, Tanner Russell and William Webb received First-Team All-Rugby East recognition. JD Bengston and Michael Kalalau garnered second-team honors. Additionally, Avion Ganse and Michael Strehle collected honorable mention accolades.
Additional Navy Notes
- Krieger led the team in total points (129), conversion kicks (36) and penalty kicks (19) during the fall season. He is the programs all-time leading scorer with 480 points.
- Baublitz led the team with 13 tries in the fall. The Glen Burnie, Md., native scored at least one try in eight of the 10 games he played in.
- Navy's offense was explosive during the fall, scoring at least four tries in 10 of its 11 matches, including a season-best 12 against Air Force.
- Sophomore Jake Cornelius was the only Navy player to appear in all 11 matches during the fall, including 10 in the starting lineup.
- Saturday will be one of four matches for the Mids prior to the CRAA Division I-A Playoffs. Navy will also face Penn State (3/1), Mount St. Mary's (Md.) (3/15) and Mary Washington (3/22).
Scouting No. 4 California
- The Golden Bears enter the weekend with a 7-0 record.
- Cal defeated the University of British Columbia 49-24 in its most recent match last Sunday.
- Max Threlkeld led Cal in scoring in its match against UBC, running in three tries in a span of seven minutes.
- The Golden Bears offense has been explosive through its first seven games this spring, including two 100-point matches against Utah Valley (128-0) and UC Santa Cruz (108-0).
Series History Against the Golden Bears
- Saturday's contest marks the fourth meeting in a series Navy leads 2-1.
- The two squads battled in Berkely last spring where Cal bested the Mids, 47-24.
