The Navy men's golf team returns to the links this week when it travels to Williamsburg, Va. to play in the 13-team Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate. Hosted by William & Mary, the two-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club (Gold Course) with tee times slated for 8:30 am on both Monday (36 holes) and Tuesday (18 holes). Tournament History
• William & Mary has hosted a spring tournament since 1978, however this will be the ninth time the competition has been held at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.
• The 2001, '02 and '05 tournaments were played on the Green Course, however the 2019, '21, '22, '23, '24 and now '25 tournaments were held on the Gold Course.
• The Gold Course also played host to the 2007 NCAA Men's Golf Championship and the 2008 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Championship.
• Princeton (301-276-280=857, +5) was crowned the 2024 champion, beating out second-place George Mason (287-292-283=862, +10) by just 5 strokes.
• Longwood's Justin Larue (68-67-68=203, -10) claimed individual medalist honors a year ago over Christian Matt of Saint Joseph's (68-70-72=210, -3).

Chip Deegan heads into the tournament with the team's low average at 72.81 among the 6 events in which he has competed, including a sensational appearance at the spring-opening Watersound Invitational where he tied for 14th with a 3-under par 213 (72-70-71). Meanwhile, Jack Tarzy owns a 72.81 average in 7 tournaments this year. Tarzy was Navy's top finisher in 3 of the 4 tournaments during the fall (Alex Lagowitz Memorial, The Goat, Commander-In-Chief's Cup), while Deegan paced the Mids at the Folds of Honor Collegiate. Deegan has been the Mids' top finisher in both tournaments this spring.

Team captain Benjamin Valdez, Chip Deegan and Jack Tarzy all finished among the top 15 to lead Navy to a fourth-place finish at the 12-team Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate last March. The Mids, who opened the tournament red hot with 4-over par 284, closed out the 54-hole tournament with a 28-over par 880.

Valdez paced the Mids with ninth-place finish, as he posted a 3-over par 216. He opened with a 2-under par 69, but shot a 4-over par 75 in the afternoon round. He closed out the tournament with a 1-over par 72 on Tuesday for his first-career top-10 finish. Deegan, meanwhile, finished the tournament just a stroke back from Valdez in 12th. He shot rounds of 71, 72 and 74 to finish 4-over. Tarzy was 2 strokes behind Valdez and 1 behind Deegan in 14th. The second-year standout had his best round of the tournament in Monday's second round where he was 1-under. He covered the two-day tourney with a 5-over par 218.

Rounding out play for the Mids were Noah Nuez, who placed 44th with a 16-over par 229 (75-79-75), and Derek Weaver, who finished 74th with a 33-over par 246 (80-85-81).

Luke Lombardo, who competed as an individual in the tournament, shot a 14-over par 227 (76-76-75) to place 42nd.
