ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy (12-9) men's tennis team fell by the score of 5-2 in matches against both Monmouth (10-1) and Drexel (6-2), Friday at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.

The Mids won the doubles point against a Monmouth team whose only loss this season was to No. 28 Penn and who appeared in the national rankings last season.  Navy won matches at the Nos. 1 and 2 flights to take the 1-0 lead.  Herrick Legaspi and Charlie Spencer combined for a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 flight, with Aniketh Ayinala and Jason Kim registering a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Hawks then won five of the singles matches to record the win, two of which were three-set matches.  George Cutone posted the only singles point for Navy as he won, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 5 flight.

Drexel also carried a national ranking for a time last season and has already defeated Lehigh and Bucknell this season.  The Dragons posted wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to win the opening point, then won a trio of three-set singles matches and four matches in all to tally the win.  

Navy's No. 1 doubles team of Legaspi and Spencer earned its second win of the day as the tandem won a 6-3 match.  Legaspi went on to win a 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) match at No. 1 singles and Spencer added a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles.

The Mids now head to Southern California for a series of matches during spring break.  Navy will play UC Riverside, Yale, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, Loyola Marymount and Point Loma over the next week.
