ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In its final preparation prior to the Patriot League Championship, the Navy women's tennis team (14-11, 4-2 PL) will close out the regular season this week with two non-conference matches, heading to Saint Joseph's (6-15, 2-3 A10) for a Tuesday morning match before coming home to host Howard (6-7, 1-2 PL) on Friday afternoon.
 
Taking on the Hawks in an 11:00 a.m. Tuesday match at the Springton Tennis Club, the Midshipmen will then welcome the Bison on Friday for a 3:00 p.m. contest at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium.
 
Last Time Out
The Mids split their two Patriot League matches last week, sweeping a 7-0 contest at Loyola before falling just short, 4-3, against Boston University on Senior Day … Navy opened the week in a big way by winning all three doubles matches by 6-0 scores against the Greyhounds before sweeping the six singles courts as well … In Saturday's showdown, Navy claimed the doubles point to take an early lead and started singles play in good shape before Boston rallied late to win the final three singles matches, with the Terriers' spoiling the Mids' last league match of the regular season.
 
Mids in the National Rankings
Navy was well-represented in the national singles and doubles rankings put out by the ITA at the end of the fall, appearing three times … Slotted at No. 87 in the singles rankings was senior Emily Tannenbaum, with the Midshipmen having two doubles teams ranked as well … Tannenbaum and fellow senior Parvathi Shanker rated 51st on the doubles list, while the pairing of Tannenbaum alongside sophomore Olivia Fermo was slotted at 104th in the same rating list … Tannenbaum came in at No. 124 in the latest singles rankings of the spring on April 8.
 
Tannenbaum Rewriting Record Book
Now holding four more spots in the Navy record book after setting the program records for career singles, doubles and combined wins as well as career No. 1 doubles wins this season, Tannenbaum holds a total of eight school records … Last spring, the then-junior set the program record for single-season singles wins (33) and career No. 1 singles victories (37) while also resetting a pair of program single-season records she had previously set, tallying 18 victories at the No. 1 singles spot and registering 55 combined wins over the course of the campaign … Tannenbaum needs one more doubles win to break the program single-season record of 24 set by Amanda Keller, Kaylah Hodge and Claudia Mackenzie during the 2017-18 campaign.
 
Puryear Achieves Navy Milestone
With a doubleheader sweep to start the spring slate, head coach Keith Puryear reached the 300-win mark for his Navy tenure … Compiling a 312-112 (.736) record through 17 seasons at the helm of the Mids, Puryear has also posted a 527-239 mark as a women's coach between his time at UMBC and Navy … His 513 victories ranked 20th among Division I women's coaches all-time and 10th among active women's coaches at the DI level entering the spring season.
 
Scouting Saint Joseph's
The Hawks are coming off a 4-1 win at George Mason that snapped a four-match losing streak … SJU has also posted victories this season over Monmouth, Le Moyne, Coppin State, Rider and St. Bonaventure.
 
Scouting Howard
The Bison have had an extended break since a 5-2 win over Norfolk State on March 30, but are set for a stretch of four matches in five days to close out the regular season … Playing at Delaware State on Tuesday and Morgan State on Wednesday, Howard then comes to Navy on Friday before hosting Coppin State on Saturday … Ava Chambers paces the team with an 8-1 singles record in dual matches, while Imani Jean and Nadia Pegram have a team-leading 7-5 doubles mark.
