The Navy men's golf team will begin its quest for the program's eighth Patriot League title when it makes the trip to Lewisburg, Pa. this weekend to play in the eight-team Patriot League Championship. Hosted by Bucknell, the three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the Bucknell Golf Club (par 70 | 6,224 yards). The tournament kicks off on Friday at 8:00 am with 18 holes slated for each day. Navy, meanwhile, will play the opening round alongside players from Colgate and Loyola beginning at 10:00 am.

The Patriot League Men's Golf Championship
• This is the 34th Patriot League Men's Golf Championship which dates back to 1991.
• The Bucknell Golf Club will serve as the host site of the Patriot League Men's Golf Championship for the seventh time (1994 Army / 2000 Navy / 2005 Army / 2007 Bucknell / 2012 Navy / 2017 Loyola), matching the Naval Academy Golf Club (Navy) as the most-played venue for the men's championship.
• Navy has won 2 (2000, 2012) of its 7 Patriot League Tournament titles at Bucknell Golf Club - (1994 4th, 2000 1st, 2005 4th, 2007 2nd, 2012 1st, 2017 4th).
Patriot League Individual and Team Champion
• Each of the eight participating teams consists of six golfers, with the top four scorers in each round counting toward the team score. The final team score will be determined by totaling all completed rounds.
• The competitor with the lowest three-round score will be the crowned the Patriot League Men's Golf Championship individual medalist.
• The top-six finishers are named First-Team All-Patriot League, with the 7-12 finishers earning a spot on the second team.
• Patriot League men's golf head coaches will vote for the three major awards - player, rookie and coach of the year - at the conclusion of the championship.
• Loyola is the defending Patriot League champion after finishing 13 strokes ahead of Colgate at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa. last season. Army has a Patriot League-best 12 titles, Navy has claimed the crown 7 times, while Loyola has collected 6 of the last 10 Patriot League team titles.
Returning All-Patriot League Finishers

• There will be a new individual medalist this year with the departure of last year's winner, Carlo Pizzano of Loyola

Jack Tarzy (Navy), Robbie Herzig (Colgate), Sean Saw (Lafayette), Nolan Schuermann (Holy Cross) and
Benjamin Valdez (Navy) return after capturing First-Team All-Patriot League recognition last spring.
• Returning second-team members include Army's John Heckel Jr. and Holy Cross' Ryan Scollins.
NCAA Regionals
• The Patriot League Champion will receive the League's automatic bid to one of the six NCAA Regionals (Poplar Grove Golf Course, Amherst, Va. / Auburn University Club, Auburn, Ala. / Gold Mountain Golf Club, Bremerton, Wash. / Montreux Golf and Country Club, Reno, Nev. / Seminole Legacy Golf Club, Tallahassee, Fla. / Atkins Golf Club, Urbana, Ill. ) held May 12-14.
• If the individual medalist is not part of the championship-winning team, he, too, will qualify for the NCAA Regionals.
• This has happened five times in league history, with Army's Peter Kim qualifying in 2014 and 2017. Navy's Chris House qualified in 2013, the Black Knights' William Park qualified in 2012 and Navy's Billy Hurley accomplished the feat in 2004.
• Three regional sites will have 13 teams and 10 individuals and three will have 14 teams and five individuals.
• The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) from each regional site will advance to play in the championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. (May 23-28).
• The 2025 NCAA DI Men's Golf Selection Show will be televised by the GOLF Channel on Wednesday, April 30 at 1:00 pm.
More on the Mids
• This will be Navy's 33rd appearance at the Patriot League Men's Golf Championship after joining the league in 1992.
• Navy has claimed the tournament title seven times (F-1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2012, 2018).
• Navy has crowned an individual medalist eight times (1997 Aaron Wright / 1998 Pete Lauder / 2000 Joel Almquist / 2003 Brian Crum / 2004 Billy Hurley / 2008 Erich Schoen / 2013 Chris House / 2018 Charlie Musto)
• Navy has also boasted the rookie of the year six times (2006 Ryan Wielgus / 2008 Ben Hayes / 2009 Peter Reilly / 2011 David Hall / 2018 Charlie Musto / 2023
Chip Deegan). Until 2023, the rookie of the year was the highest-finishing freshman at the Patriot League Tournament. In 2023, the process changed to a vote by the league's coaches.
• Three of the six players slated to represent Navy in this weekend's championship have previously played in the tournament, including team captain
Benjamin Valdez who placed 30th as a freshman in 2022 with a 13-over par 229, tied for 23rd in 2023 with an 18-over par 234 and earned First-Team All-Patriot League recognition by tying for 5th with a 5-over par 221.

Jack Tarzy will make his third appearance at the conference tournament. As a freshman in 2023, he tied for 18th with a 16-over par 232, while last year he finished just a stroke out of the lead with a 3-over par 219 to tie for 2nd and garner First-Team All-Patriot League honors.
• This will also be the third appearance for
Chip Deegan, who was voted the Patriot League Rookie of the Year in 2023. He place 23rd with an 18-over par 234 in his first appearance and last year he posted a 13-over par 229 to tie for 21st.

• Heading into the tournament,
Chip Deegan owns the team's low average of 73.36 among the 9 tournaments in which he has competed, including a sensational appearance at the spring-opening Watersound Invitational where he tied for 14th with a 3-under par 213 (72-70-71). He shot a 6-under par 207 to place third at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate and pick up Patriot League Golfer of the Week laurels.
• Meanwhile,
Jack Tarzy owns a 73.12 average in 10 tournaments this year. He earned garnered Patriot League Golfer of the Week recognition following a top-25 finish at the Augusta Hawskins Award Invitational that featured seven of the top-40 teams in the country.
• Tarzy was Navy's top finisher in 3 of the 4 tournaments during the fall (Alex Lagowitz Memorial, The Goat, Commander-In-Chief's Cup), while Deegan paced the Mids at the Folds of Honor Collegiate. Deegan has been the Mids' top finisher in four of the five tournaments this spring.
