Men's Lacrosse Travels to Lafayette for Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinals

Setting the Stage
• Inside the Game:
Meeting for just the 2nd time in Patriot League Tournament history, 6th-seeded Navy (8-6, 4-4 Patriot League) will travel to Easton, Pa. to battle 3rd-seeded Lafayette (9-5, 5-3 Patriot League) in the Patriot League quarterfinals Tuesday evening. Faceoff is set for 7:30 pm at Fisher Stadium. Navy is led by Joe Amplo, who has put together a 43-32 record in his 6 seasons at the helm of the Mids' program, while Lafayette's Patrick Myers has posted a 29-61 record in 7 seasons as the Leopards' head coach. The contest marks the 27th meeting in a series that dates back to 1926.
• Follow the Action: Tuesday's contest will be be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription based) with Adam Dobrowolski (pxp) and Alex Schoen (analyst) calling the action. Additionally, the game will be carried live on 1430 AM WNAV with Joe Miller on the call. Radio coverage begins at 7:15 pm with the Navy Lacrosse Pregame Show. Navy-Lafayette Series
• Tuesday's contest marks the 27th meeting between the two programs, and the 23rd since the Midshipmen joined the Patriot League in 2004. Navy leads the series 24-2.
• This will be just the 2nd time the two programs have met in the Patriot League Tournament. The Mids scored an 11-9 win over the Leopards in the 2010 Patriot League Semifinals played in West Point, N.Y. The Mids went on to lose in the finals to top-seeded Army 11-8.
• Navy owns an 8-2 series advantage in games played in Easton, Pa., winning each of the last 4 (2019, W 12-7 / 2021, W 14-10 / 2022, W 9-5 / 2024, W 10-9). The last time the Mids lost to the Leopards on their home field was on March 11, 2017, when Lafayette edged Navy 9-8.
• Navy and Lafayette first met in 1926 with the Mids earning a 23-0 win. The two teams battled one another three times between 1929-31 before the series went on pause. The two programs would not meet again until the Mids joined the Patriot League.
• The Mids won 10 straight against the Leopards before dropping the program's first game to Lafayette on March 12, 2010 in Easton. Navy won seven in a row before falling a second time, again in Easton, by a 9-8 count in 2017. Since that loss, Navy has won 7 in a row.
• Navy has scored double digits in 20 of the 26 games, while the Mids have held Lafayette to single digits 23 times.
• In the 26-game history, the Mids have outscored the Leopards, 323-145.

Scouting Lafayette
• Seventh-year Lafayette head coach Patrick Myers has led the Leopards to a 9-5 record this spring, including a 5-3 mark in the Patriot League. 
• It's the first time Lafayette has reached 9 wins in a season since 1984 (12-7). It also marked the 1st time the Leopards have won 5 Patriot League games in a season.
• The Leopards have won 6 of their last 8 contests, including a huge 12-7 win over Lehigh last Friday that clinched a #3 seed. It was Lafayette's 1st win over its rival since 2009.
• Lafayette has been sensational at home, posting a 6-1 record. Its wins have come against Air Force (11-8), Binghamton (16-9), NJIT (14-4), Holy Cross (13-8), Bucknell (14-5) and Boston U. (11-9). Its lone loss was a 19-14 setback against Colgate on March 8. Since that loss, the Leopards have won 4 in a row at home.
• Lafayette stands 37th in the country and 6th in the league in scoring offense, averaging 11.57 goals per game. In its 1st-10 games of the season, the Leopards were held to single digits just ONCE. In its last 4 contests, they have been held to single digits twice, including a 14-8 loss to Navy.
• First-Team All-Patriot League selection Riley Sullivan (Sr / A) has been outstanding the entire year for the Leopards, scoring 68 points on 30 goals and 38 assists. He is ranked #4 nationally and #2 in the league in points per game (5.23). Additionally, he is 49th nationally in goals per game (2.31) and #3 in assists per game (2.92). Rookie Joshua Heaney (A) has produced 32 points on 25 goals and 7 assists, while fellow rookies Nicholas Blalock (M) and Benjamin DiBattista have scored 22 points apiece.
• Lafayette's defense has been stout, allowing 9.79 goals per game which is 20th best nationally and 3rd best in the league. Joe Doherty (Jr / GK) has had a fine season between the pipes where he has started all 14 contests and owns an 9.89 goals-against average and a 52.8 save percentage.
• In terms of "special teams" play, Lafayette's extra-man squad has scored 14 goals on 47 opportunities (29.8). On the other side of the ball, the Leopards' man-down squad has squelched 21 of the opponents' 42 EMOs (50.0).
• Evan Prince (Sr) has taken the bulk of the faceoffs this spring for Lafayette, winning 139 of 251 draws (55.4). He stands 26th nationally and 3rd in the Patriot League in winning percentage.

Tourney Talk
• This is Navy's 17th Patriot League Tournament berth since joining the league in 2004 (22 yrs / 21 yrs tourney played due to COVID).
• Navy owns a 12-11 record in the Patriot League Tournament, including a 1-5 mark in the quarterfinals -  - 2014, L 10-9 at #3 Lehigh / 2015, L 11-7 vs. #5 Holy Cross / 2021, L 16-9 at #2 in South Div. Loyola / 2022, L 14-8 at #4 Lehigh / 2023, L 12-7 vs. #5 Loyola / 2024, W 12-10 vs. #5 Loyola.
• This is will be just the 2nd meeting between Navy and Lafayette in the Patriot League Tournament - 2010 (W 11-9).
• This is the 2nd time Navy has been the #6 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Navy was the #6 seed in 2014 when Lehigh dealt Navy a 10-6 loss in the quarterfinals.
• Navy's quarterfinals win over Loyola last year marked its first Patriot League Tournament win since  April 30, 2010, when the 2nd-seeded Mids defeated #3 Lafayette in the semifinals, 11-9. That victory also marked the Mids' last semifinal win.
• Sixth-year Navy head coach Joe Amplo is 1-4 in the Patriot League Tournament (2021, L 16-9 at Loyola / 2022, L 14-8 at Lehigh / 2023, L 12-7 vs. Loyola / 2024, W 12-10 vs. Loyola; L 12-8 vs. Lehigh).
• The Mids have been crowned Patriot League Tournament Champions 5 times -  2004 (def. Hobart 9-8), 2005 (def. Army 15-8), 2006 (def. Army 8-5), 2007 (def. Colgate 15-9) and 2009 (def. Bucknell 9-8). They were the #1 seed for 3 of those title victories (2004, '05, '07).
