ANNAPOLIS, Md. – A pair of Navy baseball sophomores were honored by the Patriot League on Monday, as outfielder
Andrew Manning earned Patriot League Player-of-the-Week honors while right-hander
Brady Bendik was named the league's Pitcher of the Week.
Â
With the duo helping the Midshipmen to a 3-2 week, Bendik tossed his second-straight complete-game shutout in Navy's 4-0 win against Lafayette, while Manning batted .500 (9-for-18) with four runs and three RBIs on top of four multi-hit games.
Â
Bendik Bendik threw seven shutout innings, struck out seven batters and walked one, holding Leopards' hitters to a .087 batting average. He has now tossed 15-straight scoreless innings dating back to March 22 and is the first Navy pitcher to throw consecutive complete-game shutouts since Noah Song accomplished the feat in 2019.
Â
For Manning, the sophomore outfielder recorded multi-hit games in all four games against Patriot League opponents after singling in the midweek contest with Maryland Eastern Shore, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs in a 4-0 win against Lafayette on Saturday and posting another 2-for-3 outing with two runs in the 5-3 victory Sunday over Lehigh.
Â
Manning is the first Navy player to take home Patriot League Player of the Week since Alex Smith and Colin Smith both did so in 2022, while Bendik becomes the third Navy pitcher to earn the league's Pitcher of the Week award this season, joining
Tyler Grenn and
Landon Kruer.
Â
Navy returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Mount St. Mary's in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
