PRINCETON, N.J. - The United States Rowing Association announced over the weekend its roster for the 2025 Under-23 Men's National Team that will compete at the upcoming Under-23 World Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland. After recently participating in a selection camp, former Navy heavyweight rower
Matt Lexa (USNA '25) was chosen to represent the United States in the men's eight competition at the international regatta, July 23 through 27.
A May 2025 graduate and four-year member of the heavyweight rowing program at Navy, Lexa will be wearing the red, white and blue in the United States' men's eight boat in Poland. The Wynnewood, Pennsylvania native is a a two-time IRCA All-American, first a member of the IRCA Second Team in 2024 and most recently a member of the IRCA First Team in 2025. This past spring, Lexa completed his second straight season racing with the Mids' first varsity eight crew. At the end of the month he'll be suiting up in the M8+ boat on Lake Malta with Princeton's Kian Aminian and Andrew Wilkinson, Syracuse's Declan Fry and Beck Honebein, as well as Louis Gagnon from Cal, Braden Porterfield from Northeastern and Finn Griskauskas from Washington. The coxswain for the M8+ entry will be Elenna Seguin from Brown University.
Lexa joins a long list of Navy rowers that have earned their way into competing on the international stage. The most recent heavyweight Mids to don the red, white and blue on the world-wide stage were Griffin Dunne ('22) and Will Geib ('22) at the 2021 Under-23 World Rowing Championship in Racice, Czech Republic. Dunne helped the American's M8+ crew earn a silver medal at the international regatta, while Geib and the M4+ took home a bronze medal for their efforts.
Lexa and the 2025 American men's eight crew will be looking to improve upon last year's silver medal-winning performance as it fell just short of Great Britain in the finals last August in Saint Catherines, Canada.
